Rub some slime of the fish on to the wound and it will help the pain when you first get stuck. Keep it clean and keep polysporin on it.
I never have figured out how the slime helps but it does.
I used to fish with an older fellow that swore if you got finned to turn the catfish over and rub its butt hole on the wound. He claimed the acid neutralized it. I never had the need to try it but he swore by it. Of course you know how old time remedies were.
