Just curious what other peoples experience is? Seems to me that birds pick me out more since I have started using site. We hunt 20year pines and a lot of times you don’t have the perfect cover to set up in.

I’ve noticed it too. If you’ve ever stood out in front of someone using one, there’s a big ole orange glare on the front of that thing. Between it and wearing glasses, I have to really get into a dark spot or build a blind in front of me. Drives me NUTS!!!!!

Do NOT use a sight with ANY color coating on it. Clear only. It’s so easy for a turkey to detect. I got rid of mine a couple years ago and that problem stopped immediately. They see it very well.

The Eotech reflex sight has the clearest glass I’ve seen. I wish it would get a touch brighter in the open when it’s sunny. The downside to it is you can see the emitter from the front in low light. I’ve had 1 turkey pick it out that I feel confident that’s what it saw.
I worry about my Trijicon due to the coating and colored reflection. I’m color blind, so don’t ask me to explain, but it’s there for sure.

This is my fourth season shooting one and I can’t recall a single bird busting me because of my halo sight. My interest is piqued though and I’m going to turn mine on this afternoon and get in front of it and see if I can see what you guys are talking about. I guess because it’s never happened or a bird has been spooked to me, but it never occurred to me that it could be seen out the front.

Talking with a friend a few days ago and he mentioned the same thing happening to him. Only times it’s happened to him, weather was foggy & humidity was extremely high. Don’t know if that makes any difference.

I started with a holo sight when my vision went bad, and eventually switched to a FF3. I turn it on the auto setting and don't adjust it again until the hunt is over. I have the 8 moa model and I see a clear red dot that's easy to find in all lighting conditions.
All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.

Yeah, I haven't had that happen either, that I know of. All my turkey guns have either FF#'s or Venoms on them now except my 410.

I had birds popping out at 50-60 yards keying in on something and bolting. I can’t accept it was me because it had never been an issue. Had to be the orange lens.

My Trijicon RMR has a red/orange coating on the front of the lens. I haven’t noticed it bothering a turkey at all

They make a killflash / ARD for some if it bothers you or you can make your own with some black mesh and tape. Does make the optic a bit dimmer. I don't personally like them for that reason nor have I experienced that issue with it spooking birds.

Been hunting long time without this issue. Don’t notice it set up on road or field edges where you can tuck into cover….but out in open woods without cover I thinks they are picking up on it. Depends on the attitude of the bird in my opinion. Some are coming regardless but the ones that come sneaking are the problem

We were set up on a group of turkey yesterday with the sun in our eyes (only play we had). I kept my hand in front of the sight the whole time until it was time to shoot.
I'm not really sure what percentage turkeys the glass reflection comes into play. I do feel like the advantages of a reflex sight outweigh a bird here or there seeing the sight.

I’ve been using ff3 and Vortex Venoms for about 5 years now and have never had one bust me because of the sight. Nearly 100% of my setups are in open woods with little to no cover.
83% of all statistics are made up.
