Me and the wife will hopefully be going to Jackson Tennessee the last 2 days of April and first couple of days of May to watch my son's college baseball playoffs. Is there any parts we need to stay away from or visit as far as hotels, restaurants? And are there anything we need to do if we have spare time? Thanks in advance

High crime city for its size, especially black crime. I used to have to go there when I was a telecom tech in a previous life and I hated it. It's worse now than back then.

WBBJ is the local TV station and you can read up on the latest crimes there. tndeer.com is the best source for info.

I lived there for about 6 months about 30 years ago. Seemed like a pretty good town back then. I know a big tornado hit downtown several years ago and wiped out a good diner that served a great ribeye back then.

I live there for three years. I do miss some of Jackson. I would stay a little bit further up on interstate 40 as there are some nice newer hotels up that way instead of right down the main stretch in Jackson. Try to avoid South Jackson. There’s some pretty good places to eat. Hub city deli has probably the best lunch if not in the top three the best food around. Bourbon and barley is a good place to eat as well at dinner.

Just basically stay north of 40 and you’re fine.

This is a little something to visit while in Jackson. Not riveting of course but a neat little piece of Americana. (My ex's great grandfather was Casey Jones. That's the only reason I know about it!)

Always ate at the Casey Jones restaurant when I had to go up there.

I grew up in Jackson. Haven’t been back in a while but if you stay around I-40 you should be fine. The Spaghetti Store has good eats, used to have an awesome prime rib.

Thanks for the info. We are staying right off of 40 and the baseball stadium is their minor league stadium right by 40 also. If we venture out, I'll make sure we go north.
