My buddy that has his house for sale on the NE side with a marina and 3-4 lots next to it. He says fishing is cheap, it’s the goin that cost. Marina fees, boat insurance and fuel kinda make it little pricey. 😝

Yeah. Yano is trying to run the bait shop but he’s hit or miss. I’ll never understand why that marina doesn’t cater to the guides and the fishermen

If yall end up under the two bridge connected platforms closest to the island, shoot me a text and I’ll bring yall down a sammich and some tater chips.

I heard the marina was sold. But also heard it needed to be. But don’t have an opinion cause I don’t know
First hand.

I’m sure we have covered this, but do you live or have a place on DI?

As for the insurance question, mine went up to $6k per year.

This is why I'm glad our beach bungalow is actually classified as a condo. We have a super low COA of $495 a month and it covers:

Taxes
Insurance
Grounds, pools, hot tubs, tennis courts, roads, onsite security, and all exterior home maintenance (Which is a big deal down here on the coast.)
Garbage service
Water
Cable TV
WIFI

The only other thing we have to pay besides that is:

Power bill with Baldwin EMC which runs about $150
Condo Owners Insurance that covers everything from the stud walls in and that's like $500 a year with Safeco through Brandon.

So that's pretty cheap livin' on the coast for us two retired folks.

It’s all good until you get hit with an assessment.

We knew going in we would get hit with assessments and we budgeted that into our livability scenario.

We budgeted about $1200 a month even having this pace completely paid for. That's HOA, power, insurance and assessments.

Holiday Isle has been a cluster for years. I wasn’t impressed when we looked at them for rentals, insurance on houses around the inlets are atrocious for what the houses are, but it is a barrier island. Ship N Shore has 1 or almost anything you might want, but not so much on bait. The best thing to do is make the quick drive to Bayou la Batre the evening before and pick up what you need and keep it fresh yourself.

If I had that much cash to buy I'd buy a mountain in Tennessee and put a big fence around it and never leave

I’ve almost bought 2 different times at Holiday Isle but backed out.
I usually take a big cooler and aerator. Most of the time Deer River will have bait but I have driven to the causeway before

Insurance companies are making some folks replace the screws on their metal roofs. Friend got a quote for 1.50/screw. They estimate 5000 screws
