[quote=jburson37]Maybe I'm wrong but it seems as though there is not a gobbling turkey in our state that somebody or more than 1 somebody doesn't know about.[/quote
Caught a trespasser on my property this morning, he walked up on me working a hot gobbler, we had an ugly conversation, he stated the turkey belonged to the State of Alabama and he could hunt it. Interesting thought, just did not end well.
he must’ve sang this song in school growing up:
this land was made for you AND ME 🤪

Got to gate this morning with a bunch of land behind it. Two vehicles already there. Talked to them, I ended up knowing one of the guys. They were hunting together and not going too far in. One had to be out early. They told me to go ahead with my original plan, which was hunting in the very back. Well over a mile from them. Good deal, our 3 rides should keep anyone else out, right? Then two Arkie trucks pull up. Thought for sure they'd turn around. NOPE. There was at least three of them. One asked me where I was going, I told him "where the turkey gobbles". He didn't like that. I'm not telling you where my spot is. I then asked "How many trucks do you think ya'll can fit in this parking lot?" Their response "this is our fourth year here!" Who cares? Congratulations. Don't come rolling into the spot at 5AM and parking on 3 other trucks. Anyways, I carried on with my original plan and got a bird. Surprisingly, no Arkie interference. They wonder why they have a reputation, but then do stuff like that.
I’ve made very limited effort to turkey hunt the local WMA that absorbed my old club and have only run into a handful of other folks. Only two that I can recall running across behind a gate. One was rather pleasant and we had a nice, brief chat about the land. The other was gruff and unpleasant. He asked rather pointedly if I’d seen his truck parked at the gate. I told him I’d better not have since I walked into there from my private lease adjacent. I knew which gate he meant. I also know there’s 1750 acres behind that gate and 7 gates that could get a turkey hunter to the same place we were.

This might tickle yall. I was young working at a steel plant 3rd shift. I got home and woke up my dad, I told h a buddy at work told me about a gobblerat Little River WMA. He told me to go try him since we had turkey hunted way more than him. I said he's as good as roasted. Lmao. We went and my dad took the right siof a road and I took the took the left. We'll around 9-930 he finally gobbled on my side. I called he answered, waited 20 minutes. Called again, then I seen his fan topping the ridge, heard a hen below him and he left going lower. Waited a minute and rushed to get into position and boom, took a load of #5 longbeards to the right side of my face, fell over screaming and pissed off didn't describe me!!! No vision problems so I was burning like hell, but looking for a fight or gun fight... I ran down the rigde with profanity every word, landed up being my dad. As much as I loved him, we never turkey hunted together again. Scares heal, near death doesn't over a chicken.
Love a good hunting story, love my family and friends. Some people you can't, but acted like do.
Probably posted this before, just will never shake it. This was near 30 years ago. He's been gone for 5 years. I'm not mad anymore, but still rattles me
