So what exactly does the “driver” do? I mean, obviously he starts it and I assume he puts in a destination but what does he do after that? Anything or just enjoy the ride?

I still haven't figured out who is at fault if something happens during the trip. Well you have to tell it where you wanna go. Put in an address or voice command it to an address. You mean like who is at fault if there is a wreck? The police treat it as if you were the driver.

One of my motorcycle buddies stopped by the beach house yesterday to hang out and take us out to lunch. From our parking lot at the beach house to the parking space at Tacky Jacks 2 down near Fort Morgan and then back to our parking lot after lunch, my buddy never touched the steering wheel once. All of it was a smooth as I drive. What's cool is that it takes all the information from all the sensors and displays and puts it in one unified display showing you the bird's eye view of all of your surroundings. The other thing that was astonishing was that none of the people in either parking lot parked anywhere near what I would call "normal." Sensing this the Tesla, just kind of parked evenly between two rather poorly parked cars, so it's not necessarily looking at the lines, although they are taken into account by the sensors, but it also looks at the cars and kind of splits the difference. Some really smart people are working all this out. The other thigs that was interesting is how it decides on a parking place. Our beach house parking lot is basically all gravel with concrete curbs all around and no lines whatsoever. Cars parked there can be very helter skelter, but the Tesla navigated them with ease too. When we pulled into Tack Jacks, it drove right past about 5 open parking spaces, but then it still didn't pick the closest one and it didn't get the handicapped space either, it must know the sign. It has about 5 different driving modes from "chill" to "aggressive." It will break the speed limits without even asking you too. I'm not easily impressed, but I was very impressed. Ask me any questions and I will try and answer them the best I can. Anything that tied in to real time technology is great until the hackers decide to shut it down or drive u off a cliff and bty that’s a very real possibility and can be done as easily as flipping on a light switch. Several auto makers have similar software but I’ll stick to self driving as long as possible. I get it’s pretty neat but there is the down side as with most tech.

guy at work was buying the mattress to put in the car for him and his wife to sleep in the back in texas. he says the a/c works all night.I guess its got a camp mode.

A driverless Waymo robotaxi became stuck in a Santa Monica Chick-fil-A drive-thru on April 7, 2025, blocking the lane for roughly 30 minutes after attempting a complex maneuver. The vehicle, which had no passengers, got stuck in the tight space while attempting a multi-point turn, requiring company recovery. It happened again the other day. They joke and are called Wa WA’s At the end of the day where we’re heading is very interesting

Teslas are not fully autonomous. The ones with self driving capability make you stay alert and paying attention. If your close your eyes, or don't move for a period of time, it will pull off the side of the road and stop. They are considered 'level 2', so the driver is responsible for any wrecks.

That just happened to be where Boho took the picture. Trust me. The thing was spot on. The only thing I couldn't figure out was how and why it chooses the parking spaces that it does.

Guys...
I'm not saying it's the end all be all of driving.
I'm not saying I'm going to buy one.
I'm not saying you should buy one.
All I'm saying is that I was impressed, it's cool technology, and it was way smoother, naturally intuitive, and did a much better job at driving than I could have ever imagined. And I'm a car guy that likes ZERO driving aids. I don't even like cruise control. And I like manual transmissions.
Somebody has worked their collective asses off to get this thing to work as good as it does.

Once they get the range up, and charging time down, more people will be on board  Correct...if they can ever get the recharging time to even 10 minutes, with a range comparable to an average vehicle, a LOT more people would buy them. That is THE hurdle that needs to be overcome.

You "call" them on an app like an Uber, and the car comes to you. Saw those in downtown Atlanta, when we were there for market. We also had a robot bring our Uber Eats to our hotel.
