I’ll agree that lots of travel ball parents are over the top, but so are plenty of dads who so desperately want little Jonny to be a successful hunter. There’s absolutely nothing wrong if a kid chooses to not play sports so he can maximize his time outdoors. But, leaving your teammates hanging because you wanna turkey hunt is just wrong. Team sports do teach valuable lessons. Commitment, dependability, and dedication are certainly some of those.

I'm with you CD, doesn't matter if it's Travel Ball , Rec ball other team sport or whatever , if you commit , you should show up and do your best. There's really no difference in taking Little Johnny to the ballpark or the woods if Little Johnny really doesn't want to be there either.

"Why do you ask"?

Too many people spend money they don't have , on things they don't need, to impress people they don't know.

Rest of the story….. I scouted/ hunted with the 10 year old day today. Hoping to find a bird for his son. No games this weekend. He did kinda sit out the first game. The kid can hit he’s making contact put the ball in play. First game riding the bench which was how it should have been. Well kids team getting beat 6-8 5 inning and time running out. Parents chatter in the stands let sit out kid hit we need it now……. Well team needs a hit so the sit out kids pinch hit with runners on 1st and 2nd. Lines one in the gap to left field 2 score from over thrown balls infield errors, batter is on third. Tied 8-8 next batter hits to 2nd baseman made a bad throw to first run scored team wins 9-8. Parents are happy and the dad was not happy he was allowed to play. Their kids we must remember. The coaches/parents love to win. No real lesson here.
