We lost our sweet Mabel girl today (black lab). She was only 10 months old. I caught her chewing on a towel Thursday morning, and thought I got to it in time. This morning she was retching and refused food and water. Around noon she was very lethargic and drooling. Refused soft dog food so that's when we knew something was wrong. Took her straight to the doc. Bowel obstruction turned necrotic and led to sepsis. I was with her while the DVM and techs tried everything to stabilize her, but her condition was worsening. So, we made the call to put her in surgery to try to save her. The surgeon removed the foreign body, but the damage had been done. She would have had to resect most of Mabel's intestines leading to a lifetime of "short bowel syndrome." The prognosis was poor, and I just couldn't put her through that life just for us; so, we had to let her go. I'm heart broken. She was such a sweet girl and loved our boys. Trying to figure out how to tell my two younger boys tomorrow. I guess I'm just venting, but it hurts like hell. "Hold them dear, for they own our hearts."  That's a real shame. Hate to hear that happened to her. Prayers for y'all. Losing a good dog is tough.

I lost my fav dog but it was 10ish year old. My wife's dog! It got a hold of chicken leg and did not last much longer. Hated it

Thanks yall, we were really working on retrieving and she was birdy as hell. Was really hoping she'd live a good long life with me in the field.

I had the same thing happen with a pup except it was a sock.
I knew something was up and took her to the vet and they resectioned her bowel we were lucky to catch it in time
Sorry for your families loss.

Sorry for your loss—she was a beautiful pup. They become part of the family very fast. I too have a 9-month-old black lab named Mabel, and can only imagine how her loss is for you. Take care.
