Looking on advice from people who have had total knee replacement. Who is good and who to stay away from good and bad experiences. I am very active and 55. Prefer to stay in Montgomery area but not a requirement. Also any opinions on the Mako robot type surgery or manual type good and bad. Thanks in advance

I'm in Huntsville but went to Birmingham to Andrews Orthopedic. Dr Lyle Cain did mine in 2016. Ten years later I am carrying 40 lbs of gear on my back and a rifle 300-400 elevation feet up a ridge to hunt.
I don't want to pass quietly into the night. I want to slide in sideways kickin and screamin

I have a hunting buddy that has had three joints replaced by Dr. Brock Howell (Bob Howell's son) in Montgomery. He had nothing but good things to say about his experience. I used to work at a medical College in Auburn and saw a presentation about joint replacement that Dr. Howell gave to our students. I was impressed with him.
As mentioned above, Andrews is a great option too.

I had mine done last summer. Recover wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be but I hated being laid up for a while.

Left knee in Aprill 2019, right knee in August 2019. The Orthopedic Center in Huntsville, which doesn't help you. But here's the advice: Do it. The new knees are better than the originals; the recovery is worth it. It's gonna hurt, and you'll be glad you did it. Best wishes.

Had my left knee replacement a month and a half ago. Been needing it for years. Do every bit of the therapy plus extra, and you'll be back in no time.
Love a good hunting story, love my family and friends. Some people you can't, but acted like do.

Work your legs as much as you can prior to surgery to strengthen your quads.

Had the Mako robotic replacement in 2022 and the doc told me it may take a year before it felt normal and he was right. The first few weeks were rough, very painful reha Ib but it continued to improve and is perfect now. Should have done it ten years sooner. Haven't had any pain or problems at all since the first three months. The rehab is painful but you gotta do it to have good results. Three months after the procedure I dragged and loaded up two big bucks by myself.
The side effects from the opiods were as bad as the pain, they made me constipated and couldn't pee very good, just nasty stuff, don't see how people get addicted to that crap.
