Would like a system using the turret type, 4 cameras.
(outdoors only.)
Also would like to find somebody that is tech
minded to offer some help, in the Opelika/Auburn
area. (paid advisor).
Anybody got any ideas?

Reolink, they have wired or wireless. If you go wired, I prefer POE (Powered Over Ethernet). Is this for your home or business?

I really appreciate the help. Read this. Coax = BNC https://reolink.com/blog/bnc-vs-poe/I am no home security pro but I install interview room systems at Police Depts and CAC's. With coax/BNC you will probably still have to connect to power. This can be done using a power adaptor but a wire will need to be run from where the adaptor will be plugged in and the camera. POE provides camera power through one network connection between the camera and NVR (Network Video Recorder) using cat5 or cat6 network cable.

You can use Baluns with the coax. This is a type of splitter to get power to the cameras.

Are the 2 coax cables the same color. Coax is usually black and stiff. Ethernet or network cables come in a variety of colors, I usually use blue.

I would go ethernet. Installed hundreds of ethernet cameras (axis). But they are expensive. Great video though. Unsure about kits out there. I use blink at home.
Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts,hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

My opinion, but I think if you have the access, it’s 100% worth the effort to replace the coax with an Ethernet cable so that you can get a Reolink (or similar) system that uses PoE. One cable for power and data for each camera. You may be able to use the coax to pull the Ethernet cables.

The basic steps are: Plug the video recorder box to the network. Plug the cameras into the video recorder box. App on your phone connects to the video recorder box. That’s about is for a simple install. There is a world of details to consider though. How long do you want to have access to a recording before it’s overwritten. How much detail do you want in the video during the day? At night? General surveillance or more advanced features like people detection? If you are a little more tech savvy with a bigger budget, the Ubiquiti UniFi Protect app has gotten much better. I’m exploring switching our NVRs out and using that. Their AI Key seems interesting too, but way overkill for just general surveillance needs.

I look on Amazon and usually can find a decent price. I use Axis cameras at work but they are too expensive for me to use at home. Will you be looking for analog cameras (coax) or digital cameras (POE)? You will also need an NVR to connect the cameras to. If you're going analog might as well put up a cell cam. Digital will be far better in clarity. Here at the hospital when we made the switch to digital the clarity is so much better.
