It’s not that I disagree, your opinion just makes zero sense based on what was asked. But, that’s okay.

How in the world do you know their net worth? I can confidently say I don’t know any of my friends’ net worth. Nor would I even wonder about it.

I don’t think the steak thing is that weird. You got filet mignon for free! beers

The only thing that I can figure here that might halfway make sense is that they invited you to dinner, thought you would bring your own steaks, without telling you to, and then made the best of the situation when it wound up with four people and two steaks.

You had a good time, had something good to eat, enjoyed your friends, so I'd just focus on all those "wins" and let the rest slide.

I know some of my friends net worth

Thats another thing - only half the people or even less will get the steak cooked like they want if you splitting steak. Doing it that way - i would bet they did not even ask how you like it

Adults get there own steak or serve something else

Where they in debt 5 million? Hard to tell with some rich folks. On the books debt may be all still owed. When I was young around 7th grade+ dad had the idea we might could help folks that live in the wealthy neigborhood and at the same time teach us about how tough it is to earn a dollar doing yardwork. We didn't have no modern day tools, only hand tools and a push mower. We found the hard way some of the wealthiest folks in town were some of the cheapest too! I remember seeing the first self propelled walk behind that had wheels on top of the front wheels. Drove my first Snapper ride on with the motor in rear at a wealthy clients home. Ever tried to cut a yard that has grass so thick the push mower sinks down? Needless to say we found after that summer we would be better off getting jobs at the local stores, they paid a few $ more.

If you came to our house for steak, the only time I would do something like that is if I cooked us all a big Cowboy Ribeye like this...

Well, it could be that they don't eat much, so figure everyone else is the same way. Now, you know how they eat, so when you reciprocate the meal at your house, show them what cooking steaks really means. You cook the way you do, show them your generosity.

No way that happens if you come to my house and I aint rich. If I invite you over and there is a total of 4 people there will be at least 6 steaks just incase someone wants seconds....There will always be extra or Im not inviting.

the first supper with my now inlaws, they cut ribeyes in half and the sides were not in my wheelhouse. the next cookout i brought my own tomahawk ribeye and polished it off along with the special sides that were cooked to my likings. have not encountered dainty protein offerings since the summer of 2008 with my in-laws.

Irish and I entertain A LOT and the only time we would have done this, maybe, is with our closest friends and maybe were told ahead of time of our intentions. I can see how you'd find it odd though I would have been fine with it like you were. Perhaps frugality played a part. New wealth is not usually frugal but older folks who worked for every dime they have, they use common sense and low waste in most areas of their lives, right down to sharing meals. Being raised by depression babies affects us even today!

Amd some folks are super frugal. The book “the millionaire next door” basically says thats what you got to do to be rich

Copied and pasted;

A young man saw an elderly couple sitting down to lunch at McDonald's. He noticed that they had ordered one meal, and an extra drink cup. As he watched, the gentleman carefully divided the hamburger in half, then counted out the fries, one for him, one for her, until each had half of them. Then he poured half of the soft drink into the extra cup and set that in front of his wife. The old man then began to eat, and his wife sat watching, with her hands folded in her lap. The young man decided to ask if they would allow him to purchase another meal for them so that they didn't have to split theirs. The old gentleman said, "Oh no. We've been married 50 years, and everything has always been and will always be shared, 50/50." The young man then asked the wife if she was going to eat, and she replied, "It's his turn with the teeth."

I ain't read all these posts, but if someone ask me to break bread, I don't think I'll critisize. I remember when my kids would ask for something and I offered them an X amount say 3, and they would come back with 5? I'd say how about 2? lol grin
