We are pretty much set on putting in a pool while doing our home build. Looking at a fiberglass drop in vs traditional liner type pool. Looks like fiberglass is more up front cost but less maintenance over time. Liners need replacing every decade or so. We just want a basic pool with a diving board. No frills. No fancy decking or waterfalls. Drop some Aldeer knowledge on me.

I put a liner pool in 4yrs ago and dont regret anything yet. Buddy in Florida put in a fiberglass drop in and likes it as well. Theyve gone up quite a bit since I put mine in front what im hearing.

Be sure to go the saltwater route and I’d go gunite

Relatives of mine have had a devil of a time with a liner. Something to do with the substrate. All I know is they were replacing the liner every couple of years. They finally got frustrated and just filled it in.

Check with your insurance company to see if a diving board will have an increase to your policy. Some do, some don't.

Fiberglass goes in much quicker. Your limited on size and depth though because it has to be able to be shipped on a truck and be legal on the road. Has to be set with a crane so keep that in mind on timing. Fiberglass can crack, have a hole punched in it, or even break, so they aren’t 100% maintenance free. A friend of mine has one that currently has a break in the middle. He had to have it repaired but it still has a spring to it. I expect him to fill it in, in the future. I have put in two liner pools. Shape and depth are limited to your imagination. Liners have come a long ways and some advertise lasting up to 15 years. I have a friend that got 12 years out of one. So if you put one in now, then 12 years from now, have to do it again, realistically, that’s probably the only time you’ll have to do it because most of us will be “on the other side” by the time it came around again. Liners can rip but are pretty durable. More so than you’d think. I’ve been happy with both of ours. Liner pools take much longer to put in. If you don’t time it right, you’ll spend all season having it installed only to end up being too cold to use it until next season. Whatever you decide, salt water is the way to go. Everyone that complains about how much chemicals cost, how much work they are, etc…either doesn’t have a pool, or hasn’t been around one since the inception of salt water. I’ll be getting mine up and running this week and won’t have to do anything to it but vacuum it manually, about once a month because I have a vacuum that comes on automatically every morning. I’ll test the water weekly but have never had to do anything during the season, after I get it all set. Don’t waste your money on a heater. They take too long to heat the water and cost a fortune to run. Good luck and enjoy! We love ours. We use it more and more every season.

Get a cartridge filter, variable speed pump, surface skimmer, and dolphin cc+. Salt is the only way to go.

Speaking from personal experience don't dot it. You will thank me later.

I’ve had both the cartridge filter and sand filter. I prefer the sand. Much quicker to maintain. Just my opinion though.

Don’t do it!!! Cut every tree, shrub, bush in your yard and your neighbors yard. If you do dna tests on the leaves in your soon to be installed pool you will find that they came off the trees in my yard. I’m currently digging out the ones that came from your yard up here.

We did too until we put ours in. That’s when I became what I call a self proclaimed “pool snob”. I won’t swim in any other pool but my own. I KNOW what my chemical levels are and how clean it is, or when it was last shocked and vacuumed. I know no one is peeing in my pool either. When we go to the beach on vacation, I’ll swim in the gulf but refuse to get in the pool.

I like a pool. Never regretted it. Get Gunite if you can afford it, fiberglass sounds like next best. I’d avoid a liner if at all possible. I think getting a decade out of a liner is a pipe dream.

I can guarantee you that someone is peeing in your pool. 😁

Liner with saltwater. I've gotten 10 years out of my last 2 liners. Tara liners also.
