Yeah that was weird. Had something similar and yes I called my "Friend the one that worked at Pizza Hut oh look y'all? Two large Pepperoni lovers to spread the joy." Good people well mannered cheap as all get out looked at me like I was loaded for giving an $8.00 dollar tip on pizza.

We used to eat a lot with this couple and he was loaded, invite us over and say bring your own steaks and I was ok with that but our filets were always bigger and better lookin and when he got done cooking them he would cut all four steaks in small pieces and put on a platter! I as said we use to eat with them!

Some folks just aren't steak savvy and don't realize cutting up a steak is not normal. Doubt it has anything to do with how much money they do or do not have. Also, some folks look at a large cut of meat and never think that someone would eat the whole thing in one setting.
You were right to step back and see how it was going to be served and enjoy the meal and developing friendship.
Being a "generous" person has nothing to do with how much money someone has!

I’m thinking there was a misunderstanding. He thought you were bringing 2 steaks and chose to handle it this way…..just a guess Nope. We said we’d bring ours and they wouldn’t hear of it. We said we’d bring desert and was again told it was their treat and to just bring ourselves and an appetite. It didn’t offend us at all and we don’t think any less of them for doing it. It was just weird to us and I was curious if anyone else had ever heard of such.

Well, beyond that weird move, were they over cooked? That would have been the deciding factor after the division situation. See any Pineapples? Cause got me wondering what's else they might wanted to split/shared 😳

That is a definitely a strange way of serving a guest a steak.
My wife says I always cook too much; which is true, but if we are serving steak hopefully everyone gets it cooked to the doneness they like and the portion is sufficient.

One steak per person is our rule when we invite folks over. But we’ve also had big groups come over and the rule there was bring-your-own-steak, and that worked out great too.
We are far from rich, but I’m gonna eat well. So we always buy great cuts of meat. Life’s too short to eat shoe-leather steaks.

I buy the filet and strip already cut. I also cook an extra steak in case anyone (usually my son) isn't full and wants more. Usually he and someone else split it.
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.

I’ve actually heard of someone doing just that. I was like WTH, but the person telling me said she knew of some that operated that way. However, there were told up front to bring what they wanted to be grilled. 🤷♂️ I’ve never done that and wouldn’t. Now if these TBones are the size of a cowboy it’ll makes sense. I’ve said numerous times I was very appreciative and it wasn’t a big deal. Also said we had a great time and didn’t think any less of them. Just wanted to know if others thought it was a bit strange.
