Me and the wife were invited to dinner at a couple of friends house last night. Their exact words, “hey, we’d like to invite yall over for dinner. I’ll cook us some T-bone steaks”. We accepted. Very gracious of someone to provide and cook steaks. Let me say, before I go any further, these friends are pretty wealthy. Not exactly rich, but could be considered so by some people’s standards. They are worth about $2 million. Definitely not my normal social league . Anyway, we get there, having a good time, the husband announces steaks are done. We go to the kitchen and I only see two steaks, but there’s four of us. I am confused so I stand back and let them take the lead. That’s when it happened. He proceeds to run a knife down the bone in each steak and cut one side off of each, making four steaks out of two. Let me be clear, I am extremely appreciative and not looking a gift horse in the mouth, plus, since I’ve been on my diet I don’t eat as much as I have in the past, so I had enough, BUT…I would have NEVER done something like that to a guest. I guess I see how they have managed to acquire their wealth. So, what’s the Aldeer opinion? Socially unacceptable or perfectly fine.

If this was his plan, I would have trimmed them before my guests arrived.

I would have thought there would have been 4 steaks. Maybe because that’s what I would have done. 4 people x 4 steaks but like you said they invited and were the host. I agree with dryfire on this.

Ive had people invite me out to eat and stick me with the bill. One stood in line in front of me then left the line as soon as he got to the cashier. I agree with Dryfire, i would have at least cut the steaks in two before i cooked them

It’s his money so anything is acceptable if he’s paying.

If this was his plan, I would have trimmed them before my guests arrived. Kind of what I thought, as well as trimmed the bone out so it isn’t obvious one side is missing. We still had a good time and appreciated the invite. I just wouldn’t have done that personally. If I’m that tight, I would have prepared something else.

Did you get the strip or filet?

My more important question would be who the two good sides?

I’m thinking there was a misunderstanding. He thought you were bringing 2 steaks and chose to handle it this way…..just a guess

I think you’re overthinking it. Eat a meal, get to know the folks, & move on.

Well, beyond that weird move, were they over cooked? That would have been the deciding factor after the division situation.

That's a rich folk thing. That's how they got rich. When I started in the fire service, one of the older fellas was co-owner of a very large commercial construction company here in town. To say he was wealthy was an understatement. He was a very good man, always jolly, a little bit buffoonish at times. Loving father. I enjoyed working with him every minute. He was worth multiple millions and was cheap as hell. My first shift he said, "Son, dinner tonight is on me. We are having steaks!!" Alrighty then, reckon I'm eating good tonight. We load up on the fire truck and go to the local grocery. It was Fairfield. So grocery store was a bit on the shady side. He walked down to the discount section of the steak isle. Now, I'm all about discount meat, but not what he was thinking. He picked up a large sirloin steak that had a greenish tint and was so thin if you held it up to the light you could see through it. I didn't say anything except Johnny, I'll get the sides. Just so I could have something to eat. He cut that steak in half and far as he was concerned it was the best steak he'd ever had. I thanked him, ate mine and choked down some tums.
After that I was in charge of steaks. I was one of the last ones to see him alive before cancer claimed him. We left his house and got the call he passed before we got out of the neighborhood.
Chalk this up to learning how rich folk are. Apparently it's more common than I thought.

Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.

If it’s large Tbones, my wife and my daughter get the “small” side of the Tbones and the boys eat the large side. We’ve done this forever. I would never trim a guests steak though.

Some are, but ain't common around the close one's i know including my Parents, my Friens gonna make sure you get full, THEN i know a few that'll pinch a penny on (and good lawd let's not even talk about when it comes to Taxidermy smh 😄) on goods and dump hundreds of thousands of dollars on boats & cars, i knew one feller that was a multi, multi millionaire amd he drove an old Honda with no AC and lived like a hermit. Some folks just have a sickness when it comes to Money

Dryfire nailed it. I know if we’d been invited to dinner, my wife would have asked “can we bring anything? Maybe a salad or dessert?” That’s when the host would say “Nah girl we got it! Just bring whatever kind of steak you like!” Okaaaaaay but…..nevermind!

Did you bring some wine or anything? Maybe they expected you to bring your steaks?
