I’m talking about gallons per acre, so the brainiacs and the dropouts can just chill 😜
I know how to calibrate a sprayer, so let’s skip those suggestions. If you’re spraying Cleth or doing a Gly burn down, how many gallons per acre of total solution have you found gives you the best coverage and best results?
Example, for Cleth, the rate is 16 ounces per acre. If my speed is 20 mph, I can apply that rate with one gallon of total solution. If my speed is 3 mph, I can apply that rate with 30 gallons per acre.
What have you found is the sweet spot to get adequate coverage?

Each sprayer is going to be a bit different due to droplet size from the nozzles, gpm at the pump, psi curve, etc. Most everything you’d spray on a plot will have a “do not exceed” per acre listed in the literature. If you haven’t done much spraying with your unit it can help to do a dry run(or a wet run) with just water on a plot. Fill the tank to whatever gallon line and drive it around the plot as you would with an application. See how quickly you are actually covering ground and also determine if you are going to fast or slow. Generally, your product will tell you what the proper vol/vol mix rate is for certain targets and how much to apply per acre. Getting the proper coverage is entirely up to the user. If you find yourself in doubt about your ability to fully cover in one application. Split it into two. Half the vol/vol measurement and spray twice using the same volume of water. Obviously, you’ll wait between applications to insure the first application is rain fast so that the second isn’t washing the first off.

I have 2 farms where I only have to spray 2 acres with a 25 gallon atv sprayer. 7 mph and I can spray that 2 acres with 25 gallons. I also have a 300 gallon sprayer I used to spray 26 acres at about the same speed. So to answer your question….12 gallons is good enough for what I’m doing

Depending on the nozzle type and vegetation type I’m covering it varies from 12-18 gpa. I like to apply more gpa on small bladed grasses and young vegetation vs broadleaf or woody stuff I’m wanting to get rid of.

I get roughly three acres out of a 55 gallon drum sprayer with a Teejet boomless nozel at 40psi with a 5mph travel speed.

Thx, I’ve been doing about 10 GPA and I felt it was a little light. I have had to haul my water and was trying to be lazy about it. Finally got water installed, so can do it right now.
I run the 45 gallon Fimco 3 nozzle boomless sprayer and I feel like it gets pretty decent coverage at 10 GPA if not too rank. I’m going to bump it up to 15 GPA on the next application.
My problem is I end up going faster than I calibrated. I get anxious when that product starts coming out!

I rigged up a 55 gallon drum with a bilge pump. Cut a 6x6 hole in the side of the drum, used a couple hinges and made a door. Drum lays in the FEL bucket, hook the pump to the tractor battery and have an enough garden water hose to transfer water to the sprayer. Oh yeah, I got the pump in a 5gal bucket paint strainer bag to keep debris from clogging the nozzle.

I shoot for 15 gpa with my 4-wheeler. With my booms up(5’ swath), I don’t have to drive as fast. With them down(10’), I have to travel fairly fast and be very mindful of the on/off switch when turning.
83% of all statistics are made up.

Not necessarily comparing apples to apples, but most helo delivered site prep herbicide for forestry purposes uses 15-20 gallons per ac.

I spray 4000-5000 acres per year. 15-20 gpa gets good coverage.
