From what I read about this for a safety presentation I did, the urishiol remains active even when dead for years. Anything you touched needs to be cleaned well or you could keep getting exposed. If you think you were exposed in the future while working, wash well with soap to remove the urishiol and keep from spreading. Scratching the rash doesn’t spread it, scratching the rash with urishiol still present spreads it.
