I personally know 3 people in Selma that were drafted but the military said they had criminal minds. One was my Dad and one was my Uncle. The other was a friend that grew up with my Dad. That is what I was told anyway. This was for Vietnam in the late 60s.
That's something I've never heard of. Some of the best elite fighting forces we had in WW2 were made up of motivated criminal minds. The officers didn't like them, but it's well documented how effective they were.
