I love my job too. I love getting up for work everyday. But I wouldn’t do it for free! Well 1 part I would. But not the rest. I’m only 47 so I got a long ways to go.

Retired last yr. I have enough to do around the place to keep me as busy as I want. Started traveling a good bit. Health is good so far. Love Retirement!

I'm lucky enough to be retired. Didn't happen how I wanted it too but when the Doctors say you were 24/36 hours from dying it's a shock and not in a good way. Now I just piddle and still lucky enough to be present.

Good for yall! Yall have earned it. Wife just had my baby girl and have joked with my patients that this has harder 10-15 years to my retirement age Lord willing of course 😂

I am terrified to retire. I am afraid I will get bored. Then what the Hell would I do??? I have a good friend that did what I do and he was essentially bought out at 63 years old. He is 70 now and wants back in! I think the key is staying engaged at some level but having a little more flexibility and less accountability.
Hunting brings out the worst in people.

If you are the kind of person, like I am, that is (was) afraid you are going to get bored, then you're not going to get bored. You are going to find stuff to do everyday and you are going to fix things that you have had to put off for a long time and do fun projects you have wanted to do for a long time.

I’m 25 yrs into my career and at almost 50, I have at least 15 more to go before I start winding it down. I’m not sure if I’ll ever fully retire and I am fortunate that I can scale my work down over time and ease into retirement vs just shutting the doors. All of my hobbies are expensive.

My dad worked 46 ½ years with the state and when he finally retired he said it was the worst thing he had ever done. He wants to go back to work so bad it's about to kill him.

I think a lot of retirement is that you have to re-define who you are as a person.
Lots of people, men especially, at least partially define who they are by what they do for a living. It gives them purpose. When I was working I was really good at what I did, and I was proud that I was a Field Engineer, Senior Design Specialist, Subject Matter Expert and Civil Design Project manager for a large utility company. I only had to report to one person and I had anywhere between 5-10 guys and gals working for me.
It was a consuming job, it was a demanding job, but it was very rewarding to be able to conceptualize a design, see it all the way through the design phase, the fabrication phase, the construction phase and then seeing something that you and your team designed and built actually working. That was amazing. I was super proud to do that.
When I retired, I missed that for about a month or so, but I just pivoted and honestly became this kind of an "I don't give a shit" retired happy hippy kind of guy, grew a full beard and started letting my hair grow long.
I still manage projects, but it's mainly fun stuff around the beach house and the mountain house. About the only time I need to be somewhere is going to the gym, meeting friends for fun stuff, or doctor's and dentist's appointments.
Mountain Boho and I have often looked at each other when we are just chillin' and having a good time and we can't believe just how surreal and good it all is. If we hadn't worked for this our whole lives we would almost feel guilty about it.
