Yeah, corn and cameras have made "hunters" out of a lot of people who struggled to kill deer or turkeys before. Bowhunters have really gotten good since. That said, I enjoy the pics I get and would hate not to have them.
I don’t know that a camera has ever helped me hunt/kill anything. They’ve probably kept me from wasting a day or three scouting or hunting on some land that was 3 hours away and I couldn’t get time on….but I’m generally looking at travel routes on turkeys (and predators), not fields.
It’s been going on for 50 years at least. U either got turkeys or u don’t and it’s up to how people manage them. Nowadays we could kill dang near anything at anytime but us that like to hunt prefer to not take advantage of the resource and shoot it out however it’s done and that’s the truth. I know old timers that were worse than most people today at killing deer and turkeys.
I thought that was a stupid idea when they come up with that....I would take it over what we have now. It would stop a lot of people from killing off their porch and stop people from trying to hunt 1/2 acre spots because they can set a pile of corn up at 30yards and kill every deer from neighboring properties on their 1/2 acre. Most that hunt that way have nothing invested and no regard for maintaining a huntable herd.
Yea - me and that rant guy could be best friends! Not sure thats not me🤣🤣 - my thoughts exactly
I complain about not having turkeys - my neighbor with the beautiful hardwoods and big fields beats my pine thicket every year. But if i was dumb and sorry and low life enough to bait - i could tag out and do it quickly!! And would hav accomplished absolutely nothing but being a low life
I will not get to use them this year and its no big deal eithr way to me - but decoy dont bother me. Fans bother me. A ground blind for a child or an old man does not bother me. But feed does. Turkey is not like deer! I never got one of my 6 year old deer on cam all year in gun season. But a turkey will show up to feed every single day if its there. Its no skill or challenge and not a fair fight
I done with this thread now
Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self We need prayer for our country now more than ever
I disagree with his inferred stance on the fourth amendment. Other than that, I agree he was spot on
Lann is a dang good one. Had some good times with that fella.
I wondered who all on here knew him. His country sayings are a hoot! His YouTube channel is fairly new, but I binge watched it this past weekend. Also, he was recently on the MSU Deer University podcast.
A mixture of cracked corn, milo, wheat and scratch will bring them right to the barrel. Turkeys respond better to bait that deer do. Truth be known, there's probably more people baiting, than those that are not. We've got great habitat, good nesting cover and food, and hold really good numbers birds for 10 months out of the year. Shockingly enough, we hold the lowest number of birds from about 2-3 weeks before the season starts, until the week after it ends. Right after the season ends, everyone comes right back home to the clover patches. Now why do you think that is?

I worked with Lann a few years in MS. We still try to catch a morning or two to kill a turkey every now and then. Real good dude.
I would just want to put bait out just to watch them. Turkeys are fun to watch when they strutting. Area I hunted growing up I never shot a turkey, just not enough. Visited the old stomping grounds a few years ago deer hunting and the trail in was tour up with scratching. I thought we had hogs. Low and behold I hear something coming, turns out two big gobblers walked out at 30 yards. I can see why certain folks would want to bait. Those things can be a lot of work for older folks that can't walk or someone with physical limitations. I can see them letting those folks bait, with a limit of two a year.
A lot of baiting is in retaliation to neighbors baiting. If nobody was baiting there wouldn't really be any need to bait. The neighbors will steal your turkeys. Over the years almost every turkey I've killed had been eating corn even though there was no corn on our property
Another bad deal now is having permission to hunt property but can’t because the deer hunters run feeders year around. You work to get permission then try to talk somebody that don’t turkey hunt to turn there feeders off for 2 months.

This is conditional based on your local political status apparently…..
^^^lost some grand turkey land over this a while back. Landowner suddenly sided with a new deer permit holder and refused to stop feeding. Then the deer hunter decided he’d turkey hunt over it. GW actually came to ME and TOLD me they’d be on it and to stay away. Never went back.
Now, if I pay $ for the lease/rights, it’s a condition.
