Let’s say hypothetical. If someone receives a Stop Work Permit from the county. What does that mean? Let’s say the verbal was not heard and then received a written one a few weeks later. The county seems to think I need a permit from ADEM from an engineer. Is there a stop work permit on this price of land forever. Or in a year if I want to build something, if I do the correct avenues I can get a permit then. Or do they record that someone was disturbing the land and will need to do erosion control before Anything else is done in the future. Or does it just run out in a year.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Sounds like you need to speak with the person who issued the stop work notice and ask all your questions to them directly. Maybe take along a witness or atty.

If the stop work order is not followed. Fines. Lots and lots of fines. If work is not stopped and fines are not paid, liens are placed on the property. If there’s a mortgage, liens are sent to the bank. Notice to cure is sent from bank. If work is not stopped and fines paid and liens removed, bank will issue a notice of default and demand to cure with a defined time. After that foreclosure is initiated and the bank’s distressed assets section finds a new buyer for your property.

A stop work was issued to a friend of mine. He was adding onto his house closing a patio adding roof pitch and another patio. The inspector checking another job saw his wall and saw construction happening. He stopped by no permit job was shut down took him 4 months to get it up and going again. Filling plans showing all work that was done made him show prof of license contractors. Then a new drawing per specs. Cost him a lot more than doing the right thing first. Tried to beat te system. He got pissy with the permit folks they left it on there desk several weeks because they could. Not sure if any fines were issued. Good luck with it.

Let me know when you need an environmental consultant because you are having to deal with ADEM and EPA.

X3 Had some locals call ADEM on the farm twice in 2 years. We had no say so, just said yes ma’am and no ma’am. Put up the silt fences, paid the permits/fines and hired an engineer. Didn’t like it, but didn’t have no choice neither. This was on property that we owned and had owned for years. It was the same local both times. Moved here from Ga, didn’t like country folks doing country things. Sobs move to the country and the first thing they do is try and change it to the city they just left.

Ugh… Closest I ever got to that was the 24 yr old county septic inspector (girl) said my fill lines wouldn’t perk, while it was raining straight down. This was new fill lines, replacing the existing ones that had been here since 1966. Crazy ain’t it?

Yea. This just happened. I am going through an engineer and Adem. Just out of spite. All work is stopped but me on a tractor smoothing it out to plant. I was just getting spotty info from county commissioner and the county inspector office. Wasn’t the same thing being said. But one said for ever. Which did spook me.

ADEM was useless with my former mother in law's complaint of a neighbor having run off from his property onto hers and into her pond, silting it up. Water was running across a paved road to boot.
Seems dumb you need permission to build on your own property.

This doesn't sound right. I've never heard of this type of overreach unless something else is causing concern like washing a road out or diverting water where its causing a hazard.
