I talked with a tractor salesman up there last week, he said he was stopping on his way home to sign the petition. He said they already have far more signatures than needed. He said its far worse then what we are hearing about.

I think they will split. Alberta has more than enough oil and minerals to support itself, and the government of Canada is doing everything it can to prevent it from becoming the country that it could be.

If they separate from Canada and become part of the US that will be interesting to see how it isolates British Columbia.
British Columbia is similar to several US states that have an ultra liberal dense population in a city and the rest of the state is more conservative. But due to the city liberal numbers, the entire state has a liberal government and policies. All that to say, British Columbia will never leave Canada due to liberals in Vancouver.

Quebec has been trying the same thing for as long as I can remember. It got them nowhere, and since I haven't heard anything about it in years, someone shut them down quietly, or paid someone off.

Alberta has very big deer. I'm for them joining the USA even if they talk funny.

Just because they may vote to leave Canada, doesn't mean they will vote to join the US. Plus, from my understanding, although it takes a simple congressional majority to admit a new state, I think it takes like 60 to break a filibuster.

So it all could happen and if it did, I think it would be similar to what happened when the SEC expanded way back when and started this cascade of upheaval with all the other football conferences. I think you would see other provinces of Canada breakaway too.

The last new states were added in 1959. That's 67 years ago.

If we admitted Alberta, I think they would be about the 14th or 15th US state when it comes to GDP per capita.

Odd's are, if they split from Canada, they will us US currency until they decide if they want to join as a state or remain independent. They could choose to be a commonwealth like Puerto Rico or Samoa.

Samoa has some good Girl Scout cookies. I know that.

I just hope Trump doesn't put a tariff on 'em.

They ran some tests on GS cookies and found out that they are one of the worst cookie offenders for heavy metals and carcinogenic chemicals. But I dont think the folks in Alberta really care about GS cookies.

If Alberta does break away from Canada, would it be a stretch to think at least Manitoba and Saskatchewan would follow?

Sure would make sense.

I cannot see a world where any province of Canada joins the US. In fact, I don't want them to. Mucks things up for us worse than they already are. I wouldn't surprised at all if the provinces separated and got together to form a new country independent of Canada and the UK. Then promptly became close allies with the United States. I could also see them getting protection agreements and other special status through the Trump administration.

I'd honestly be shocked if Trump wasn't working on that behind the scenes now. If he pulls any two of Canada, Greenland or Cuba off, his can rest assured he leaves office having made a huge impact on the world and the United States that will go down in History as one of the most transformative Presidents in History.
