With a few exceptions, I prefer mono over braid as my working(casting length) line. I tend to use braid, even partial spools, as backing for when that unexpected bite has outclassed my chosen reel.

I use 15lb Suffix 832 braid on all of my inshore setups both personal and charter. On the leader I typically use a 20# mono or flouro leader that is 20 foot long tied to the braid with an FG knot. It will pass through the smallest eyes without much fuss.

When I finish tying the FG, I always put a tiny drop of super glue at the top where you tie the loop knots. When I catch a tarpon and break him off at the pier, the line always breaks before the knot does.

A 6 foot medium action rod with a penn ultra light with 8# mono is all I ever use for trout and reds. I don’t use a leader with lures. They will be showing up here under my dock light when the water warms up and more bait shows up. I’m starting to see some small pin fish.

Been watching here. Does everyone know that under certain conditions your entire spool full of braided line can loose tension and spin ?
There are a few ways to insure this doesn't happen. Plus, spool surfaces are being changed to account for slick braided.

There are a few ways to insure this doesn't happen. Plus, spool surfaces are being changed to account for slick braided. I had that happen to me years ago when I first started using braid. I thought there was something wrong with my reel. They are making spools now that remedy that situation. You can also tie your line to your spool and put a piece of tape around it.

Happened to me at night sharking one time. Had just set a couple of shark rigs out and noticed one slipping. Left the bait out, rain down the beach stripping the line off. Came back, fixed it and continued fishing. Not sure how it slipped while taped but it did.
