Most of what I've been catching have been slot/undersized reds and average size specks. I've been using "decent" bass rods so far and I rinse them thoroughly after each use and haven't had any trouble yet. If/when one of them blows up on me I'll probably buy something a little better. I'm fishing from a kayak and even a slot red will pull me around....being in the kayak almost acts as a secondary "drag" system. As long as they run and don't dive, you can outlast some pretty good size fish just letting them pull you until they wear down. Most of my inshore spots are super shallow so there's very little diving
