Typically use 20# suffix 832 with a 3-5' fluoro leader. I change the # on the leader depending on the application. I'll go as low as 15# for bumping jigs in clear water and up to 30# for throwing big topwaters in the surf. You can typically get away with line splices in the spool if theyre pretty deep. Otherwise you're asking for wind knots or heartbreak with a long run from a big red or jack.
