Night Watchmans post in the land lease section got me to thinking about some crazy/weird lease members I have experienced. I ran a club in Bolligee for about 8 years and had some fun ones I interviewed a guy once for it who was so overweight he actually snored while talking to me. Since we had a shared camp house he never had a chance🙂. Lets here some of yalls.

One guy I actually went to school with got in the club one year. Took his son and they sat on a plot and didn't see anything so he shot up the shootn house. Kicked him out. He was killed a few years ago.

A guy was bad about following you around, watching where you hunted, ect…
A few fake rubs on some trees in an undesirable location kept him busy the entire year.
He finally shot one morning and said he missed. A couple of us walked in there later and found a spotted fawn under a clump of palmetto.

Dayum!! Poor kid having a father like that. I did destroy a ground blind in front of my 10 years ago when I couldn’t get it to fold up. Had to apologize to him for that one. Not my finest moment

I am happy to report that none of my experiences were too outrageous. I don't really have anything against the guys that chose to leave my lease. In fact I still consider them friends.

I have no idea what it is about hunting that makes people so touchy. The guys leaving my lease were close friends I had known and worked with and thought very highly of for many years. Go to implement some very reasonable policies like "hey let's try to dial back the number of guests we haul in here with us" and they start throwing around words like "Narcissist". I do not know why but it was like I couldn't say anything to them at all without them blowing up. Never acted that way in the past. Again, it is something about hunting that changes people's emotional archetype and I do not know what it is

Also one of the guy's "leaving" my lease is my 22 year old brother in law. Got him a new cute little girlfriend and he is so far stuck up her butt that hunting isn't even a blip on his radar anymore.

I hate that but I can't say I don't understand it. when I was 22 cute gals were really the only thing I thought about too.

Also her family has some really nice property out in Lamar county so I was really fighting an uphill battle keeping him

About thirty years ago, had a call from the power company meter reader to let me know a person with a trailer load of rotten hay bails was on the lease a couple days after turkey season.

I’ve been lucky to only experience/know of a couple of problem members over the years. One was a younger guy who was married but would bring his side chicks up to the camp. He also happened to share my bunk room so I really didn’t appreciate that drama.
Another older guy and his son joined. They were nice enough. This was before any form of baiting was legal. We had one member that I knew kept a feeder in a far, barely accessible, corner of the property and he’d let you know it was there so you could steer clear. This new guy mentioned that he’d always hunted over corn and that’s just what he did. Club president let him know that we did not allow baiting but if he felt called to do so to do it VERY DISCREETLY. This MF dumped a truck load in the plot across from the camp gate and another on a piece of property owned by a local that we didn’t even have rights to. We had the game warden stuck up our rears half the season. He was asked to not come back.

We had a fellow that joined along with his wife (2nd wife). He must have been cheated on by the first one because he was convinced that everyone in the club wanted to screw her, and acted like a pure idiot all the time. Thank goodness he only lasted one season. Another time we had a guy and his adult daughter in the club. She was about 19-20 I guess. One of the younger guys, about 21-22, married, started screwing her every weekend, until his wife found out. We had another older, married guy that had a girlfriend in town. He would come in every Friday night, sign out then back in for Saturday, then the same thing for Sunday, then he’d go to his girlfriend’s house for the weekend. He just wanted a paper trail like he had been at the club.

We had one that wound up being the cray cray king. Yall probably heard about him. We always felt like he was a little different, but never caught him actually breaking any rules, he showed up for work days, and we never had to hunt him down for his dues. We finally let him go after a few seasons because he creeped a lot of folks out and just didn’t fit. He wound up getting busted for hunting off a golf cart modified to ride on the railroad track. Might’ve even been doing it at night, I can’t remember. Not too long after that, he wound up killing himself by blowing his house up after holding his wife and baby son hostage for a while.

The only place I’ve ever heard of where married people screw people more than a hunting club is little league baseball teams. I’ve never experienced that personally but heard it second (or third) hand

We must have been in the same club. We actually brought some shoulder mounts up one time and stuck them in front of his camera at one spot and you best believe he camped out there all yr

I’ve been in several clubs and the only drama I ever knew about was when someone super glued the locks on shooting houses. Most think it was a former member. The last club I was in for about 12 years had a great group of guys, we worked together and were happy for anyone that killed a deer. We even helped the guys that couldn’t hunt very often get on a deer when they had a chance to hunt.

Been in alot of clubs. Seen about all yall mentioned. One place my dad leased was 800 acres coming to a point rite behind the landowners house. They said the only people that can hunt there is you and your son.(me) Only had one person in the lease with us then. Guess who we got a picture of over there... You guessed it... Swore it wasn't him while all 3, of us were looking at the pic and him! Then we had 2 in the lease! Still have it to this day, the landowner appreciates honesty.

Love a good hunting story, love my family and friends. Some people you can't, but acted like do.
