I've been watching more and more with a growing movement of people pissed about the Alabama Power bills.
I gotta say, there seems to be a lot of smoke and where there's smoke...fire.
People with $800-$1000 power bills.
More than one tested the system. Went on a trip, turned off the main to the home. Gone two weeks, next bill is the same or more than the last.
People turn off their HVAC and heat with fireplaces. Same high rates.
It seems to revolve around the smart meters.
Seems the oversight of Alabama Power and their rates isn't really there. They seem to own everyone. Rates are amongst the highest in the nation.
Far higher than surrounding regions with the same climates.
Thoughts? I know we've had higher than normal a few times, mostly in the summer. I like it cold, so I don't bitch too much.
But the closer I watch, the more I think there's something to it.
I'm starting to see a lot of focus on the new meters.
I'm wanting to look into a metering system where I can see daily and peak use. Logged. Then compare against the Alabama Power numbers to see if the usage is accurate.
There is a growing movement for Class Action lawsuit and criminal investigation. There are petitions you can sign. I'm thinking of adding my name.
I have the means, so while I don't like it, we won't go without power. However, Alabama Power is a monopoly, largely unsupervised.
There are a lot of people being forced to make decisions on power or food/medicine. That's bullshit in a state that's as conservative as Alabama and with an otherwise much lower living expense than the rest of the nation.
Needs to change.

BTW...the legislature wants to make the Public Service Commission to change, from voted in people...to appointed people. Way too much money being slung around in the legislature.

Yea .Big topic the last few days on those groups I mentioned. On the one had, we vote like dumbasses. Which gets us what we've got. On the other hand, we give away our power to politicians to appoint, they're bought and paid for. Not sure what to think other than we get what we vote for.

AL has some of the highest energy bills in the entire country. They’re getting worse. Ours was the highest it’s ever been this month, in the 9 years we’ve been in our home.

When I worked at Farley Nuclear the top dog for the top Union contractor made twice as much as the plant manager. The dude did a few morning safety meetings and took his boat out on the gulf the rest of the day.

I dont see how they can manipulate the metering system..almost all utilities use smart meters now..the biggest IOU down to the smallest co-ops and municipal utilities. What it sounds like..and this is a theory..is some sort of estimate upon usage and trying to predict usage..some utilities in years past have only pulled readings quarterly and then billed at an average estimate that adjusted up or down at different times…but that dont happen much no more and hardlh anyone still has to do that..cause of better reading sytems..power is weird..it aint like water..you cant find a hole in the wire where the power is leakin out. I know about all you can know about a water meter..and i dealt with power too…none of this makes ANY since to me..none.

I’ve heard that the smart meters show the high usage all the time. I know Alagasco has the highest prices in the south and I’ve caught them red handed estimating gas usage on a house I bought that the gas meter read zero. Billed me for $27 dollars until I raised hell about it and came back later as $7.00. I think it would be a crime if they billed for over usage (fraud) and guesstimating bills should be the same. I see this appointing crap for board as a joke and would get more political than now.

While they may try to sell it to the public we all know, because for the most part Aldeer is not made up of idiots, that this is a recipe for disaster to the consumers. Do you trust the legislators to put the good of the people over their own pockets?
