The wife and I will be in the Hoover area on Saturday, so I thought I would just kill two birds with one stone and take her for a nice lunch for Valentine's. What's some really nice lunch options around in the area?

My favorite place to eat is Pollo Lucas. Its a hole in the wall mexican chicken joint. Best chicken you will ever stick in your mouth but its a long way from fancy. Theres a Krispy Kreme donuts about a mile down the road for desert. Itll be time to go take a nap after that.

The Local in Vestavia is also good, if you want a meat and 3 kind of place, although they do have some burgers too.

J Alexander's is another good one by the Galleria I may be mistaken, but it looked like they were closed last time I went past.

Fish market downtown ok, not as good a few months ago. Hoover one no go! Read reviews online on what type food you like. Most places no go! Good ones may be closed on weekends. Not consistant in food quality! Eat before you get to Hoover or 280, unless you got that special place!

Never had a bad one there. Never had a bad meal there. Never had bad service there. There are others that are decent. But that's where I go when I want a steak. Sawgrass is 2nd. There's no shortage of places to eat that are great in Hoover.

Former Hooverite here... I'm throwing in Seasons 52 at the Summit. It has a lovely atmosphere while being casual and the food is wonderful. I also second J Alexander's (I think they changed the name to Redlands?). According to their website, they are open for lunch.

Took my mother there and she ordered Snapper, which was obviously a Tilapia filet. Don't know if that location is still there but I would avoid it.

There a lot of good ones for you, OP. I will throw out, for just a sammich, The Diplomat in Vestavia.
