Never should have been eligible to begin with.

That's a slippery slope for the NCAA. I'm really not sure why Alabama and Bediako has warranted so much attention because there are a ton of teams doing this. I heard on the radio the other day there were 38 players trying to get spots on college basketball teams that played professionally in Europe or the NBA G League.

I think it's unfortunate and I think Alabama should have stayed away from the whole thing. Let the ones that have moved on stay gone and let the next generation of superstars advance or crash.

That's basically what Oats said the other day in his press conference....if you don't like it, change the rules, we're just doing what nearly every team we play against is doing too because it's technically within the rules (or something to that effect). I don't know how accurate that is, but I have to think it's at least relatively accurate or he wouldn't have publicly said it in a press conference.

Gomer, Oates will say and do anything. Its been the rule for ever that if you go through the NBA draft and sign a contract you're done with college.

As for any punishment for playing an ineligible player; the Tuscaloosa judge ruled ineligible but NCAA is not allowed to punish in any way.

I’m a Bama fan and glad he isn’t eligible. He knew the rules when he left, however………..So did Pavia and all those other jc transfers, yet they were granted more years!!!!!!

Pavia wasn't drafted and sign a pro contract. I don't like all these players getting 6,7,8 years.

Oates played a guy that delivered a weapon to a murder scene so nothing surprises me. (And yes, I do know that Bruce Pearl held an illegal BBQ but it's not quite the same IMO). Oates does not care about integrity. He is just trying to win at all costs. That is what will keep him hired. The player knew, along with everyone in the country, that he wasn't eligible to return. But Bama got a few games help from him due to a judge that should have recused himself because he is a UAT donor. That's an ethics violation but the Bar does not enforce ethics because if they did they would not have enough members left to pay the light bill. Likely would not have beaten Auburn without the guy. A&M win is in question. I just hope the Selection Committee takes this into account. I can see the AP voters certainly are penalizing Bama for their misdeeds.

My point is there is obviously some sort of loophole that is being taken advantage of....a quick google search indicates there are several players currently playing college basketball, despite having previously declared for the draft, and playing in Europe and/or in the NBA G-League.

So, serious question.......what makes Bediako's situation different than all those others currently playing college basketball after playing professionally, elsewhere? Why is he getting so much air time?

There are at least 38 international professional players on college rosters, it’s a mess

Right. I don’t like it anymore than anyone else. But let’s not act like Alabama is the odd man out

My understanding is that, the difference between him and all the Euro pros and other g league pros, is that he is the only one that attended college prior to signing a pro contract. Supposedly when you leave college and declare for the draft you sign away your rights as an amateur in that sport. I don't really understand how that works for the others, but that is why you sometimes see players that have played minor league baseball come back to college and play a different sport other than baseball. I don't know if college sports will ever recover from the mess that it has become.

The rules state that JC time counts against their years of playing.

The guy Baylor brought back sat in the draft room next to bediako, played in Europe. There's 3 other g leaguers playing in teams right now. There's over 75 european pros-38 named in bediakos lawsuit- that were granted eligibility. College players are being paid, they aren't amateurs anymore. So why the refusal for bediako and not the other 75 players -or 3 former g leaguers. At the very least why did the Baylor guard get reinstated?

From what I've read, the Baylor player never signed an NBA contract. Idk, but I personally believe that if they have ever played any level of professional ball, they should be ineligible to play for a college in that sport. But also everybody is basically professional now so there is that. Bediako's situation should show how valuable the scholarship education that players are supposed to be getting really is, as everyone is not going to make it in professional sports.

I'm so old, although I can't remember who, but I remember a player being ineligible because he signed his name with an agent on a napkin in a restaurant, and Bo Jackson missing his Sr year of baseball because the Tampa Bay Bucs flew him down there to check out the facilities and told him it was cleared through the NCAA. The problem was that it wasn't cleared so he was ruled ineligible. How the NCAA has become a joke of an institution, my oh my.

Oates was not smart to play him until a final ruling for two reasons. 1. the risk of forfeiting the games they won and 2, even if they don't have to forfeit, you can bet he and UA will now have an NCAA target on them. They'll be pissed.

Guess they are really going to be mad at Ole Miss since they lost that one in court and Chambliss gets another year.
