I will need to replace several shooting houses this summer. I have a good plan that I have build before that is 5x5. Its large enough I can get 2 office chairs in it. In the past I just built out of plywood and use the deerview windows. I have used elvator brackets and 10' long 4x4's.

Do yall insulate them? I have a friend who build one that I liked that was sheathed outside with flat metal (like the use for R panels but not molded into that shape) the metal was 41.5" wide. He bought a camo pattern, attached it to the outside and then put osb in the inside walls. It was pretty nice but I was considering adding some insulation. Any advice about that... spray foam, styrofoam, or pink panels?

What if I didnt put insulation but covered inside walls with carpet. I see HD sells some 1/4" closed loop that is 6' wide for .60/sf. That might be warm enough and quieter and would run less than $100 (for the carpet).

I got boarded walls at big field - maybe 7 ft off ground - maybe 6x6 and carpet on floor. I put sealant or puddy around all cracks and hav a tight window. Its prob not 100% air tight - but it gets so hot in there i got to strip some afternoons. Could not imagine what it be like insulated - prob need a ceiling fan 😀

Yeah, with the windows I have in some other ones it can get warm. Thinking the carpet might make it quieter.

I wouldn’t insulate. I use deer view windows and they are great! Carpet on floors and office chairs. We are comfortable. Oh and for the carpet just get some carpet squares that are left over from a floor guy etc we didn’t pay for ours nor our chairs

We don’t insulate either. Last one I built was 5x5. Use a foam gun to seal cracks. Put a trap door in it. Trap doors are better at keeping out insects and rodents.

5X5 gonna be tight with two office chairs . Mine aren't insulated , nothing on the walls inside, they do have a ceiling , metal roof with 3 ft overhang.

Made mine 6x6 with front edge of roof at 8' and back edge of roof at 7', if I remember right. Painted the inside walls a dark color to break up any silhouette seen from outside and gonna put carpet down on the floor. Guy I worked with was tearing carpet out of his house and he gave it to me.

If anything, fiberglass or open cell spray foam insulation will dampen sound. I don’t think sound is that big of an issue in a shooting house, but it may be for someone else.

I got a 5x6. I laid some plywood on the roof then a sheet of bubble wrap under tin. Bought a spray foam can from Lowes and spray foamed all the cracks and all corners. Very warm.

I have one built from steel tube and metal panels, then had it spray foamed inside, with windows closed you will absolutely forget how cold it is outside until you open the door to leave! Of course some days I have sat with only my pants on……

I made my shooting house 5x6 on a trailer. I can put 2 people in there, but I really should have made it wider. At least 6x6 ON THE INTERIOR. You lose length and width, 7" if your using 2x4. So the actual interior size of mine is roughly 4' 6" x 5' 6" and that does make a big difference.

We built ours 4x6 with 2x2 for walls but used 2x4 for the shooting ledge which is also bottom sill of window, got plexiglass from box store along with piano hinges and a bracket to help hold them up, swing out and up, no insulation, carpet on floor
