Not a monster by any standards, but the biggest buck I’ve shot and on a small piece of land (12 acres) in Madison county my dad and I have been working on for quite a few years. Came cruising through about 7:45 Saturday morning on a fast walk. Hit hit with 265 leverevolution 444 Marlin at 35 yards. He didn’t kick, just went to a trot for about 50 yards and tipped over dead, leaving a RIVER of blood in his tracks. He was quartering a bit, so it hit and annihilated the left front shoulder, almost split the heart in half and did a good number on the lungs. I’ve heard reports that this bullet breaks apart a lot at close range and I would have to concur. Had a small fragment exit, but exit was tiny. Entrance was a jagged hole that a softball would fit through. Not a speck of fat anywhere on him, he wore himself ragged chasing.

Was getting nervous about getting some meat in the freezer, and happy with this deer on our little place.
