Shot a nice 8 point at last light yesterday evening at about 70 yards and walked over to where I thought he was and could not find any blood. Did a grid search of the area for an hour and walked the entire field looking for where he may have entered the wood line and nothing. Anyone who has shot a deer really early or late knows how hard it is to keep up with where they run, especially when there are 15+ other deer in the plot and they all scatter in every direction. Head back to camp for dinner and I am still convinced that I killed him at this point because it was a clear and easy shot and I just double checked to make sure my gun was still dialed in last week. I know I’m not gonna be able to sleep so I get my dad to go back in there with me at around 8 pm. I got in the stand and told him to start walking in the direction I thought he was when I shot and got him to stop when I thought he was there. I walked to where he was and he took the closest trail to the left and I went right and took the path of least resistance. Walked about 50 yards off the field and that’s when I saw his rack! Perfect shot right behind the shoulder with the 7 mag 150 grain and not a drop of blood or hair anywhere between where I shot him and where he laid. All of that to say don’t give up too early!! I probably walked within 35 yards of him 2 hours prior. -I’ll try to post pic shortly

Congratulations!
That’s a good way to find them and get a good starting point.
It’s a good feeling to see that rack when you have little to nothing to go on!
Well, the way I see it is there's just too many assholes On a good day there's a bunch of assholes in here. On a bad day there's too many assholes in here.

You mean you did that with a 7 mag?! So it’s not just the creeds that do it? 😁
Congrats. I never give up. If you’re confident in your ability to shoot, the deer is dead more often than not. They don’t all do the textbook bleed out while running. Been a lot of deer left to rot because of it. Good for you for staying on it.

A dead deer can run 50 or 60 yards and this only takes a few seconds.

I'm betting entrance was high lung shot with no exit. They will hardy bleed for the first 50 yards except inside. It pays to look 100 yards if you think you've made a good shot

TBH I lost the box of Core-Lokt ammo I had been using so I ended up just shooting what I had on hand and ended up finding them later after I had already adjusted my scope a bit

That was smart to hav dad walk out to spot! Congrata - great deer
Big deer i shot at 25-30 yds with 270 130 grain corlock - not drop of blood - did not run over 60 - perfect shot. I often feel i miss mine. Of the 6-7 dog tracks i hav done - all short tracks except first one on long bow shot The guy i use dont hav bunch dogs that gonna bay a deer either - sometimes he only brings one
Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self We need prayer for our country now more than ever
