Something else about those north Alabama counties……When I was making a prediction about the new two doe rule having an impact on harvest I was assuming that the rule change would influence the harvest decisions of the hunters……Something I didn’t take into consideration was the amount of hunters who wouldn’t even have that choice to make this season due to the conditions……For many of those northern counties it will likely be next season when the deer spread back out that we’ll see how that shakes out

Next year will be a blood bath up here if we have a normal acorn crop.

You're probably right......The hunters have definitely been given the tools to make it happen when they get the opportunity......It'll be interesting to watch.

^^^ on what Matt said. And the following years too. Years like this one are when the population recovers or expands. You're carrying a whole lot more "bred" does into next season that will all have twin fawns (does that in other years, probably would have been harvested and their fawns never born). These additional fawns in turn, will be yearlings next year and survive (hopefully) to be bred in the following years. Down harvest years (due to environmental factors) are good to have periodically.

So you are saying that you jumped the gun then ? And that what everyone else was saying was closer to right than wrong ?

It's okay. You can do it.

Onto to why the numbers are what they are in the southern and western portions of the state…..

So now as we move south in the state we get out of the areas where hardwoods have such an influence and into the more pine plantation dominated landscape…….The harvest is much more consistent in the southern portion of the state. However, for many of the southeastern counties it has been a consistent climb upward in harvest since baiting was legalized……Last year was the first season where the upward climb finally crashed back down…..So we are now on the backside of that crash this season and looking at how harvest has responded.

This southeastern quadrant is the area where I believe the new 2 doe rule has had an impact this season and a good portion of it has probably come through the Florida boys taking advantage of the new rule on their late season hunts that they come in for……If you noticed its jumped a lot right here at the end….and unlike the northern half of the state the southeastern quadrant had more “opportunities” that still existed to use the new rule because of the deer still coming to the corn the same way instead of having the big acorn influence…..In many of those southeastern counties what you’re seeing is just a further thinning of the herd……It just added another secondary peak to the trend line on our graph to match the one from two seasons ago.....This is where those 10-20% increases are coming from

See this is what I was referring to with y’all being worried too much about the wrong things……Y’all are more worried about playing a silly gotcha game than understanding the truth about what may or may not be occurring as if I care about being wrong on some minor details of the timing of things for a portion of the counties

The hunters have had the tools to make it a blood bath for years. 1 doe a day, 2 does a day, 1000 does a season… we haven’t been limited by doe bag limits in a very long time.

CNC, in the grand scheme of stuff I consider worthy of worrying about (which isn't much), this isn't so much as a blip on the radar.

BUT, if you want to be taken seriously, don't die on every hill, or in this case graph, or chart - and dang sure don't use game check data. Like everyone said from the get-go in this very thread - there is not enough reliable data from a faulty game check system to form a theory. There's a bazzillion other factors such as acorns, weather, drought, etc. (which was pointed out to you and you stuck your fingers in your ears), that you cannot possibly quantify everything.

And they aren't MINOR details. They are huge ones.

Just to add a little more about the difference in the northern half of the state and the southeastern portion…….Many of the counties in those areas have been on the same basic trajectories of increased harvest followed by a falling off……the northern half is just on a little bit different timeline with it due to the acorn effect causing those big up down swings……The major influence of the acorns causes the corn impact to not be as constant year to year as it has in the south...... so the trend line is lagging behind……North Alabama is seeing this year what the southeast quadrant saw last season.

Now onto the western counties……….

You know if want to choose to not believe anything about the Game Check numbers then I don’t have a problem with that…..It does not matter to me whatsoever……You and a few others though are the ones who seem to be bothered by the fact that “I just wont listen to you” and you try to characterize that as “the problem”…….Hmmmmm

If you think it's an "I just won't listen to you" matter, then you're whistling past the graveyard.

Again, I’m not the one who thinks there’s an issue or a “problem” with these threads……I’m simply posting up the data and giving my assessment of it……If you don’t want to believe any of it then that’s ok with me…..
