Ai basically says 280 achley bettr - downsides - ammo available and it has greater recoil plus due to faster velocity and more pressure - 280 barrel wear out quicker

Never shot either - 150-175 my max shot - 270 and 308

223 with a 77 grain tipped matchking(TMK) is good to 450 yards before it drops below optimal velocity for that bullet.

Not to pick nits, but the 280ai has WAY better ammo selection and availability than the 7 BC, and the 7prc has only marginally better ammao selection/ availability.

Not to mention, that none of those hungry cartridges are required to kill anything in North America, much less deer in Alabama. Lol

That's a very true statement, but you dont have to wear the skinny jeans and have your hair pulled up in a bun to shoot the 280ai, which is a big bonus IMO.

Nor a 223, 7-08, or 308 to name a very few of many non creedmoor cartridges that would accomplish the goals of the
OP.

I think you're mixing up 7PRC with 7Mag. 280ai is nipping right on the heels of 7 mag, but unless you're doing some way off book handloading, it's still a couple hundred fps behind the 7PRC

Correct. And "with 10 grains less powder ", with the same weight bullet , if I saw it , I still wouldn't believe it.

Shooting a 150gr eldx peterson brass 24" barrel I've gotten 3040 fps with 54 gr n550
Most accurate load was 51.7 gr n150 at 3020fps sd 1.8
4831sc accurate but slow. 4350 decent speed but meh groups.
I don't have any experience loading for 7prc but the factory eldx loads claim 3100 fps and that's a whole other ball of wax... saw where some guys where getting around 2800+

To be fair, the 280 is a lot more efficient than the 7 mag and does essentially match ballistics in for the 162gr class and lighter bullets. Maybe not 10 grains less, but will get same velocities with an honest 3-7 grains less, depending on powder and bullet weight.

I’ve settled on Barnes LRX 145 for me 280ai, with Peterson brass and a compressed load of 4831sc I’m getting great accuracy and 3050 fps. The 7 prc will shoot 175 grain bullets the same speed. That’s a pretty big difference, IMO.

If your loading a 7mm PRC with a a 140-150 gr bullet and ONLY getting 2,800 fps , you're doing something very wrong. That would be the reduced recoil load, LOL.

That was with some of the factory hornady ammo.

The 7 RM is limited by SAMMI pressure restraints in factory and in the loading guides.

Loaded to equal pressure, it will easily outpace the 280 AI by 150 fps.

I still tote the STW. Not much fun to shoot but then again I just poke it out the window and little southern whitetails give up and lay down!

Ive always wanted a 257 weatherby mag i think that with some 80-100 grain barnes ttsx would be devastating on these little alabama deer

We will burn that bridge when we get there
