Either one of those you listed will do the trick. I would choose the 6.5 between the two, though. However, a 7-08 is also a great choice.

I’ve got a 6.5 but wanted a long range setup. I have to have a lot of magnification to make anything much over a 250 yard shot. Got a Swarovski 4-12 on my 6.5 Mountain Ascent.
Just bought a 5-25 Swarovski and dwelling on what gun to get. Thanks for the advice. Leaning towards another Kimber. I really like the lightweight. What else is out there? I’m not really wild about the Christianson Arms

My uncle and his daughters kill them at 500+ regular with a 6.5 creedmoor. But I think youd be better comparing a 6.5 prc to that 280ai
We will burn that bridge when we get there

But if you want better factory ammo availability, either 7mm PRC or 7mm Backcountry. Figure out what it likes, buy 5-10 boxes for it, hunt forever without concern about ammo availability.

The only negative with 280 AI which is what I shoot exclusively, and I have 3 safes full of about any caliber you choose, is the Ammo availability at times.

Respectfully, why would you ever run short? When you figure out what it likes, buy 5-10 boxes. Ammo is the least expensive part of our hobby, and it generally doesn't expire. Many calibers I hear folks complain about ammo availability are readily available online, and anyone on this website has access. Whether my LGS, hardware store, or walmarks has the caliber I need is insignificant. Ammoseek lists "hundreds" of buying options right now for 280 AI.
