My father in law is wanting to get a new rifle. Most likely a 7mm-08, he is not looking for the cheapest option. But a good quality bolt action probably in the $600-$800 range. I run older Remingtons so I don’t have any experience with the new stuff. Most likely synthetic with a threaded barrel. Some brands we’ve talked about are Savage, Tikka, Bergara, and possibly Winchester? Anyone have any thoughts?

TIkka or Bergera would be my pick in that range.

As I’ve stated many times. I bought a Tikka T3x Hunter in 7-08 last year. It’s a little more than the budget you mentioned but it’s truly a great rifle. Very accurate, smooth action, great trigger, perfect weight and feel for me. Also it has a nice classic looking wood stock. To be honest I’ve only shot 2 types of ammo through it. Hand loaded 120gr Barnes TTTSX and the 140gr. Accubonds. Shot both rounds extremely well but the Accubonds shot just a little better. So far everything I’ve shot from whitetails, Axis, coyotes, and big hogs have not made it more than 60yds. My buddy has a new Browning BAR in 7-08 and he shoots the 150gr Norma Whitetail they shoot and perform great. I would think and of the Major rifle companies produce rifles that shoot better than most of us can shoot them. Lots of people come to use my range and I’ve seen everything Mossberg to high end Brownings. With the right round they all shot great. I’m partial to Tikka and the higher end Savages. Ruger American is a great shooter but I’ve noticed some ejection and feeding issues with some.

TIkka or Bergera would be my pick in that range. This Checkout Eurooptics for some deals on Tikkas.

TIkka or Bergera would be my pick in that range. This. Tikka is arguably a "better made" though both are very nice. Tikka if the protruding magazine doesnt bother him, if he wants flush then Bergara would be great.

I've looked at a lot of different rifles and the best feeling and smoothest action I found is a weatherby model 307.. If I was gonna buy one right now that would be it.

Weatherby 307 is a wonderful rifle, but even the entry level ones are still a good bit out of the stated price range. The really interesting ones are more than double the price range.

I try to stick with good USA steel.
Bergara, and many other overseas makers use salvaged metals from Chernobyl and its heavy and radioactive. Run A geiger counter over it and see.
I’m not looking to get a tumor anytime soon so I eat right, don’t shoot foreign guns, take only name brand pharmaceuticals, don’t vape, only eat local fresh seafood, and only talk on speaker phone.
And, just say no to Covid vax 😂🤣😂

... I mean, night sights and glow in the dark paint also register on a geiger... doesnt mean they're going to make you grow a third ball.
