Looks like those Texas genes...... grin ......Seriously though, I have found over the years that top end deer can come from virtually any county......Nobody really has a monopoly on it......Its just a matter of folks letting the right ones get a little age on them instead of shooting them when they're 2 years old

Here’s another observation…….

A lot of these bigger racked deer are small bodied deer that are likely the lower end body weights of the 3-4 year old age classes……I think a lot of what you’re seeing is because of there likely being good buck age structure in this immediate area and probably a good buck to doe ratio where this small bodied buck hasn’t had hardly any breeding stress up until this point in his life…..This small bodied buck is likely not the bully breeder of his age class…..he's last in line......therefore more of his energy has been put toward rack potential and the right one lived stress free to 4 years old....Just a theory...

Found a stud 8 point for a guy about a mile down the road tonight. Probably 130ish clean 8. Low gut shot found him dead about 230 from shot sight

Except for that big one we've been snake bit here lately with back whacks and brisket shots......Even had a shoulder shot with a bow today that ran across the road in front of us chasing a doe as we were driving in......That was the quickest I've ever found one........ grin

Well we finally got an easy gut shot recovery.......Buck had some kind of funky growth off of his rack.....Never seen that before.

Leg shot from yesterday evening……we tracked it to the hillside on the other side of the pond from where I’m standing and found his bed full of blood…..Pretty sure the yotes jumped him and ran him into the water…..We found blood again just on this side where he came out and found him floating…..I figure the yotes circled around and pushed him back in the water where he froze to death…..You could just see hoof and hindquarter sticking up out of the water……..

Buddy at our club gut shot a doe this evening so we went ahead and put the young dogs on it for some learning. They got her up and ran her about 250 and had her caught when we got there. Ended up dying about 20 yards off a club road so much better drag than where we started

This deer ended up being a 137 1/8 clean 8 point. Don’t see very many like that

Pretty simple recovery from last night......Shot was just a little high and back barely putting out any blood on the ground.....Deer ran into the thicket and then took a hard left turn throwing the searchers off......

Dang it boy......we let one get away yesterday......That stings your pride a little but I guess its good for keeping you humble.....Just part of it.....The froze up ground and erratic circling the buck was doing was giving Otis fits trying to figure out where he went.....We found his first bed but ran right by his second one probably within 50 yards. If I had to guess he did another J hook on us..... I assumed yotes had jumped him and ran him off but I was wrong......Gotta have a short memory though I guess because we're on to the next one this morning

Well redemption came quickly……was able to recover this buck today at lunch that ol’ boys girlfriend shot Saturday afternoon in the leg/brisket area…..The track was 44 hrs old and we found roughly 400 yards from the hit site in some really thick volunteer pines…….Back to even Mr. Drone Man... wink

Also recovered another gut shot this morning from yesterday afternoon’s hunt…..The is the first one I’ve ever recovered without a head……The deer was right on the property line and had already been discovered by the neighbors that morning due to some buzzards….You can't tell it in this pic but the whole back end on the other side has been eat up…….Just out of luck I happened to track for the neighbors as well and after a quick phone call to the caretaker the story had a happy ending smile

Out of curiosity, which side of the line did that last deer die on? That had to a site walking up on a deer with no head.
