My son and I are leaving next week for a week long public land bowhunt in Ohio. This is our first Ohio hunt. Hunted LBL in Kentucky last year with no luck. Any suggestions?

Study aerial photos so you have an idea of what you want to scout. I'd rather scout for 5 days and hunt a "hot" place for 2, than just sit in a "pretty spot" for a week and do no good. I'd shoot a time or 2 every day between now and then also. That's all I can think of. Good luck to y'all! Let us know how it's going!

The bucks will be traveling in space with minmal coverage. Look for fence lines, tree lines, minimal coverage that crosses open areas. Let the does walk.

I'd have to carry a loc on and sticks along with a climber if you are comfortable with using one.

It may be cold, it may be warm (for locals). Practice shots from a treestand with your heaviest clothing on.....gloves included. Think about wearing gloves and taking them off at the short notice when a deer arrives. Bows get cold when it's single or teen digits and if you are holding them you don't want bare hands. Traveling bucks can show up at ANYTIME.

Much better for me than gloves.

Don't give up on the rattling. If you ever get one to respond, but not close enough for a shot, let him get going the other direction and hit the horns again.

Bucks should still be rutting pretty hard, so rattle, grunt and have a doe bleat handy. I don't like deer scents, but if you have confidence in them, have some hot doe urine with you, too. The key will be to find a concentration of does and the bucks won't be far away. Does will be on harvested ag fields, corn specifically, so if you can find some public land abutting a corn field or other preferred deer food ag field, you have found a hot spot. The biggest bucks killed up there generally come from the week leading up to and the week after Nov. 6. You should be hitting it just right.

Congats on your kill....Create a photobucket account (free) and upload your pictures to it....Once they are in photobucket you copy the IMG code and paste it here...if you have a smartphone you can download the photobucket app and do it all from your phone
