I've got 90 acres here at the house I bought in 2007. It was just thicket and scrub oaks with a creek running through it. It had been cut 9 years prior. It was hard hunting back then, the oaks didnt even make acorns yet. All you could do was cut an opening or shooting lane to hunt. There wasnt very many deer on my place.
What I did is create diffent habitats openings , doing some burning, discing, thinning and absolutely no bush hogging. The no bushogogging has probably been the best thing I've done by far. All it does is get rid of food and promote grasses.
I have no greenfields or corn piles, just what is here. The closest green fields are at least half a mile.
I've seen 13 deer the last two afternoon hunts. Rattled one in, Have seen two chasing does. One was a shooter, but I wasn't fast enough. I didn't see that many deer the first 2 seasons we had the place. I saw 5 today overlooking about an acre I burned last week. I'm pretty pleased
I hope whoever get this land after me takes care of it and doesn't screw it up. Anyway I've been blessed with it for a short while.
