It’s a mind exercise. People see fewer deer? They kill fewer deer. I know very few ppl who changed hunting tactics this year, but continued to hunt the same way they always had, despite the conditions we were handed. It led to fewer dead deer. Myself included, the whole family hunted less this year as well. I know other folks who did the same.

Yep , I posted upstream about it, seemed like less hunting up here this year . I asked several other hunters and many agreed , it just doesn't seem like as many folks hitting the woods this year.

Its primo time and conditions right now to kill a doe…….If you cant kill one on any given afternoon with the lows in the 20’s and highs in the 40’s for ten days straight then you must not have any deer

Here’s what I think changed and it is partly due to acorns……Imagine we’re looking down on the landscape like it’s a big chess board……All of the hunters are each sitting inside of a bunch of various sized “squares” that we’re looking down on……Lots and lots of chess board squares…. from 1 acre to 100 acres to 1000 acres…….This season there are a lot fewer of those smaller squares that are productive……The reason is a result of hunters having shot the chit out them over the last few years and there being less deer now in many areas…. combined with a bumper acorn crop that’s concentrating the remaining herd onto fewer squares where they’ve been moving less….

The reason its important to understand this is so when the opposite happens next year and the deer get more spread out again and get the chit shot out of them again…….you begin to understand how “doe management” really works for a lot of folks…..Its a little different than how the QDMA textbook describes it………and why the skrategy of holding onto a few might not be a bad idea for some folks……. wink

You can do that when you've selected an issue with hundreds of undefinable/unquantifiable outside parameters, that all have the potential to greatly influence the outcome or results of the issue at hand. You're just making it up as you go and tossing out the effects of anything that goes against your established thesis and belief. Its the perfect circular argument. If kill numbers are up, its bad. If kill numbers go down it's bad. No matter which way the data falls, up or down, it is a self-fulfilling result.

Its because I don’t have an agenda and I’m simply looking for the truth while others try to push set narratives……

Processing fees are double what they were a couple of years ago for starters. Inflation since Covid has put a hurting on the average Joe in the woods. I know several people that have held off shooting does for this reason and a lot of hunters usually give some away to friends and family.
