Gaiters are great lightweight option for wearing a more comfortable boot and they also keep your legs dry from walking through wet grass and mud.

Im wearing chippewa snake boots in the warm months in the woods, seeing a lot more rattlesnakes the past couple of years it seems.

I've never worn snake boots nor gaiters turkey hunting which is probably stupid. In my lifetime I've been bitten once on the kneecap by a black racer, and I've stepped on two cottonmouths but luckily on the first one it was crazy cold that morning and he was slow. The other one I stepped on his head and was able to kill him before he could get free and bite.
I've encountered a lot of snakes turkey hunting but those above were the close calls.

I watched a friend step right across a large timber rattler way back on a piece of public last Sept - how he did not step on it or drag his foot across it I do not know.
I guess this one was in a good mood that day or decided discretion would be the better part of valor.
I just looked at him and said "you just stepped across that"..
He was in hikers. I was in my chippewas lol.

I like the T & K gaiters, but there not snake proof. They don’t say anything about being snake proof, but for $200, they should be! I believe they make a snake version, they're right at $300.00.
if i hadnt taken up hunting i might have became a juvenile delinquent or worst taken up GOLF

The T&K’s are very well built. I ordered a pair but they were more heavy duty than what I was looking for. They were built like a tank. Of If I lived out west, would definitely have them for the snow.

I once saw a timber rattler as I was about to step on it. It didn't react much until I pinned the head down and began to decapitate it with my pocket knife. The reason for the lethargy may have been the big ol' bo' squirrel it had eaten.

I wear turtle skins bc wearing snake boots is the biggest pain in the ass to deal with in the turkey woods. I can wear those turtleskins and a good pair of hiking boots and be comfortable and a lot lighter than snake boots but still be protected. I dont watch for snakes either so thats why I always wear them. No telling how many ive stepped beside, over, or around and never knew they were there

Protects my boots, laces and lower pant legs from damage and are good in mud and at creek crossings if they're waterproof. I only wear them when I know I need themI also use them to keep rocks, debris, snow and ice out of unwanted places.

I've bought a pair of Turtle Skins back in 2010 bc the Marine Base I was hunting out west was chock full of snakes. They're still holding up, but I wonder if they'd still stop a snake.
Pro Tip: zip them together when you take them off so you don't lose one side. I had about a 2 year stretch where I could only find 1 side.
