I have bluetooth hearing aids. They're great. BUT the hearing aid market is a farce on its face. There are only about 4 manufacturers that make ALL actual hearing aids..... NOT OTC hearing amplifiers. The OTC units amplify everything and you will hear everything, just louder with no options for adjusting different sounds/backgrounds.
My hearing declined over a few months last year and was bad before that. I believe it to be diabetes related hearing loss. About a year ago I bought Audien Atom OTC 'hearing aids' and they initially helped but they amplify everything which is a bad thing.
I made an appointment at a hearing clinic as my first move to decide on hearing aids. After the hearing test I asked for the printed graph of my hearing ability/inability and was provided with the printed copy.
..So, then, I made an appointment at Costco. The difference between the clinic test at the hearing clinic and the Costco test was eye opening, to say the least. The gal at Costco was much more informative and the test procedure seemed to be more advanced/targeted at collecting the right data to work with. I have did a lot of research between when I was tested at a hearing/audioligist clinic and at COSTCO. One of the things that I learned is that a handful of companies make all HAs regardless of the name. Oticon Real 1, ReSound Omnia 9 and Phonak Lumity L90 checked all the boxes for me and all get great reviews. Each one has a cost of about $1850 each at the clinic x2 plus tax would cost approximately $3900 for a pair.
In my research I found that the parent company of ReSound is GN. GN manufactures ReSound, Beltone and Jabra with Jabra being the Costco branded version. The ReSound Omnia 9 is what I settled on at the hearing clinic. BUT, I discovered that the Jabra Enhance Pro30 is the same hearing aid with a different name. And instead of $3900 per pair I paid just under $1800. They have bluetooth, some AI features and a host of user options plus the in person or remote service from Costco.
So, I recommend a hearig test at a bonafide hearing clinic, get the graph printed out and go to COSTCO. You'll get the same hearing aids and save 50%. WOW! Great information with details. Thanks for sharing. Will have to see if our local Sam's Club offer the same thing.
