I have 20+ coaching HS athletics but i tend to lean on the side of caution posting my opinions on this site because we have a few ASSHATS on here who know it all anyway. I have not always agreed with the AHSAA but they got this one right after Memaw was going to pay kids to go to private schools and make them immediately eligible. The AHSAA said no in our bylaws you have to set a year and they put it into court. Now we have a state bill on the floor with lawsuits to come by private schools and guess where the politician's kids go to school. Check out Ainsworth's FB posts its easy to understand. My team had to play a Back to Back state championship team and we had no business on the field with them. There are no perfect answers but the plan was simple. Put the private schools in their own league, Let them sue us, they leave the AHSAA and create their own League. They are not our problem and the politicians can control them (where their kids go t school). Pretty simple effective plan if you ask me. It will not fix the problem. City schools essentially are governed like private schools except for a few things like enrollment control. That might have been the plan for now but what about when the same thing happens with the city schools? Are they going to then separate the city and county schools and make them play in different leagues? The legislation was never going to pass and the AHSAA knew it. In my opinion, JD, the AHSAA used this bill as an excuse to appease the county school boards. City schools still have to abide by school zones! No they don't... you can live outside of the city limits and "pay" tuition to attend. Or, if the school wants/needs your athletic abilities, they'll give you a "scholarship" to attend.
