All our kids grew up here that play here. From Toybowl and park ball to HS.

I guess yall haven’t played any city schools yet.

If you want to think about Blountsville and Cleveland getting screwed. I say look at poor old Douglas. Not sure what they are now but a few years ago they were a 5a. They pick up every Hispanic kid to Boaz, Guntersville, Albertville, and 75 South to the Blount county line. Best case scenario they should be nothing more than a 2a for an area that’s simply a crossing in the road.

I would agree with that. We are in same boat with the mexicans, only a few play but most of our school is Mexican. Look at crossville they dont even have sports any more because of the Mexicans. I just dont understand why we have 2 school within 30 minutes of us and we dont play them we drive over 2 hours to play.

Did you see the region Piedmont drew as a 2a they will dominate

Douglas has only been to the playoffs 3 times since 1970.....I don't believe that the Hispanics are the issue here.

Where was going was if they were in the correct classification without the Mexicans they might be competing

Hispanics are not an issue at Douglas. They are all at albertville. Issues Douglas has is that everyone left Albertville cause they were tired of playing in a 7A school and getting the heck beat out of them. It has now come back to bite them. Grass not always greener on the other side.

Pwyse, you obviously have a dog in this hunt somehow, but you’re now in the minority. I’m not arguing about the right or wrong of it anymore, don’t have to, decision was made (correctly). I’m just gonna be glad, enjoy it and quit talking about it. I’m out.

I hope not playing private schools gives you what you want and you can enjoy it like you say. I don’t think it will but maybe I’m wrong. I think, soon, the schools with less funding (county schools usually) will realize that it was never a problem with the private schools, it was a problem with the money. And separating the private schools from you didn’t solve that problem. You will soon realize that the city schools will have more money, better coaches and better players. County school parents will continue to complain about it, and they will continue to brag “all our boys were raised here and none of them transferred in”. I think players not wanting to transfer to your school is nothing to brag about.

I have 20+ coaching HS athletics but i tend to lean on the side of caution posting my opinions on this site because we have a few ASSHATS on here who know it all anyway. I have not always agreed with the AHSAA but they got this one right after Memaw was going to pay kids to go to private schools and make them immediately eligible. The AHSAA said no in our bylaws you have to set a year and they put it into court. Now we have a state bill on the floor with lawsuits to come by private schools and guess where the politician's kids go to school. Check out Ainsworth's FB posts its easy to understand. My team had to play a Back to Back state championship team and we had no business on the field with them. There are no perfect answers but the plan was simple. Put the private schools in their own league, Let them sue us, they leave the AHSAA and create their own League. They are not our problem and the politicians can control them (where their kids go t school). Pretty simple effective plan if you ask me.

It will not fix the problem. City schools essentially are governed like private schools except for a few things like enrollment control. That might have been the plan for now but what about when the same thing happens with the city schools? Are they going to then separate the city and county schools and make them play in different leagues? The legislation was never going to pass and the AHSAA knew it. In my opinion, JD, the AHSAA used this bill as an excuse to appease the county school boards.

(SHOALS INSIDER) After ten historic seasons, Darrell Higgins on Friday resigned as head football coach at Mars Hill Bible School to accept the head coaching position at Russellville High School.
Higgins joined Mars Hill Bible School during the football program's infancy, stepping into the head coach role in just the program's third season. In 2017, he guided the Panthers to their first-ever playoff appearance. One year later, that momentum culminated in a storybook state championship, setting the tone for a program that would become one of the most successful in Alabama high school football.
Under Higgins' leadership, the Panthers captured seven region championships and

No they don't... you can live outside of the city limits and "pay" tuition to attend. Or, if the school wants/needs your athletic abilities, they'll give you a "scholarship" to attend.

They are and they aren't. Students can't attend the local city school system unless student lives in the city limits (city school zone) or pays tuition (sounds sorta like a private school, doesn't it?). Live outside of the city limits (city school zone) but can't pay tuition and you excel in a sport? You can get a "scholarship" to attend said city school (again, sounds like a private school doesn't it?). Or, student can move into the city limits (city school zone) and be immediately eligible to play sports.

Here's an example of what I'm referring to...I have known this student and family for almost 20 years and worked with/for student's dad for most of that time
Student attended a private school and excelled in a sport. Student's parents wanted to pull student out of the private school. The family lived in an area zoned for a public school (the public school student was zoned for wasn't known for success in student's chosen sport). Parents and student did not want to attend the public school for which they were zoned for. They approached the local city school officials (coach of the sport student would be playing and AD at the school). They were told how student could attend said city school without having to sit out a year since student wasn't attending public school they were zoned for. The family had to make a "bonafide" move to within the city limits for student to be immediately eligible. Parents "rented" a furnished house, owned by a local real estate company (owner has a close connection with a high ranking city school official), within the city limits and student was immediately eligible to play. The furnished house was "inspected" for living conditions (ensure that furniture was there and it was being "lived in"). Family never actually lived in the house...family residence was still in area outside of city limits, that was zoned for a public school. Family had to "live in" the city limits (city school zone) for a certain time (think it was a year) and the student would be eligible to play without having to live in the city limit (city school zone). Again, family never actually lived in the city limit (city school zone). The house that the family rented has been lived in by several families with students that excelled in athletics, including a couple that play or have played in the NFL and one currently on a high profile SEC team.

I imagine the reason he swapped from public to private is the insurance and more importantly, the retirement. This is common. Even more common is teachers retiring from Public schools and then going to private. My wife did this. My daughter did it the other way. She started in Private and now is in Public, for all the reasons I listed.

This kinda stuff has been going on a long time.

Yes it has. But even in this situation, the city school didn’t make him sit out a year. The AHSAA did. That rule applies for every school (county, city, and private). He would have had to make a “bonafide” move (or fake one) to any school except the one whose district he lived in. If the kid just accepted to sit out a year, no move inside the school zone, district, city limits… whatever you wanna call it… is required. The school systems decide what the school zones are, not the AHSAA. They also decide when they can break their own rules.

So in other words. Nothing rally has changed except the perception of fairness
