Unless you right a 4-5 checks that don’t get cashed for awhile. Then you have to figure in the outstanding checks to know how much money you got. Right?

I never really balance my checking account but once a year. I call it reconciling. I let it all catch up once a year and figure put where i stand. Most of the time, im $400 or so deficit. Last year i was quite a bit more, i wont say how much. It was embarrasing. This year, i was actually $500 to the good. Apparently, i forgot to write down a deposit or two. I keep between $5000-$10000 in tbere all the time and write everything down as i go. My mama used to balance her checkbook every month and get down to a few cents in her account at times. I just try to make sure theres plenty in there.

I don't write many checks these days, but I do make a handful of deposits a year and it pisses me off that they don't really give the deposit slips in the back of the checkbook anymore. Manually filling the account number is a pain. I have to look it up every time online and they want to send a 2 factor authentication.

We are very fragile as a society with all the technology. If you forget you Apple ID, you are absolutely screwed if something happens to your current phone. Forget your Microsoft password, can't get email, use Word, Excel, etc. It's pretty scary how easy it is to turn your life upside down.

I do have my account numbers stored in a few places. And my passwords to all that stuff. Most of them I can remember though. Most iPhones have the Face ID and store all that stuff for ya now too.

I guess I’m old fashioned because I still write 2-3 checks every week. I also use an excel spreadsheet that I made, probably 15 years ago, to track and balance my accounts to the exact penny. I reconcile my primary checking account weekly, due to the number of transactions. My other accounts, I reconcile once a month or once a quarter. This method was derived from necessity when my wife and I were just starting out and every penny counted. As life has gone on, I just never changed my ways because it works and gives me peace of mind.

My checks are 4 per month , they are logged into my checkbook , all but one is the same amount each month. I never even get close to overdrawing. I do check the monthly statement against the online transactions and amount. I mainly look for activity that I didn't do or an amount that doesn't match. Do you not check your debit receipts against your statement or online periodically ?

I look at my account online a few times a day on my phone. It’s takes about 15-20 seconds to make sure there are no debits that are not mine. My biggest problem I’ve found is that my wife buys something off Amazon thinking she used her debit card but she accidentally used mine. When this happens, I text her, she says it was her, she Venmos me the money and it’s back in my account in 10 minutes. I need to start charging her interest 😁

Sprate banks, checking accounts, debit and cc, has worked at my house for 40 years.

The people I mentioned above, don't take digital forms of payment. They all would accept cash, but then I would need drive 20 minutes to town, get cash out of the bank, and then drive 20 minutes back from town when I needed to pay them, and in certain cases get them to write me out a receipt.

Writing a check just seems to be the easiest way for these few times we need to write a check. I don't even write the check, Mrs. Irish does.

I pay BCWA with my debit but they charge me 2 bucks to do it
