Redeemed ourselves this morning after a couple tough tracks yesterday that didn’t go our way……Buck was shot facing the hunter and hit a little off center…..Jumped him out of his bed at around 350 yards from the hit site……Bayed him once 150 yards after the jump but he broke and ran before we got close……He bayed up a second time another couple hundred yards away and that’s where it ended……This was the best bay work Lu-lu has done yet…..I think she’s finally maturing and gaining that confidence she needed to stay locked on them.

Checked a clean miss this morning on a big one just to make sure.....it ended up being what they thought it was......Got another call just as soon as we we're loading up from that one to check one that had been grazed.....It ended up being what they thought it was too......Getting lots of reports of chasing beginning to ramp up around the area.....All of the recent tracks were behind does

I quit keeping up with it years ago.......Found that it was more enjoyable to just go track for folks.......If I had to guess though I'd say were running similar to last year but down from 4-5 years ago.....From now until the end of the season is when calls really ramp up though so it'll probably end in a big flurry over the next few weeks

10-4, as much as you like statistics, I can’t believe it doesn’t drive you nuts not keeping up with it. I’m a numbers nerd I’d have to know, haha.

The reason I don’t is because its easy to let numbers turn things into a competition with others and you end up robbing yourself of the enjoyment of just being able to go out to great hunting properties and work with your dogs…..You put undue pressure on yourself for no reason…..It took me a few years to realize that.

Went out and tracked a backwhack last night for some folks I’ve tracked for quite a bit in the past……I tried to talk them out of it because EVERYTHING about the situation screamed back whack from the reaction of the deer laying there for a while and then running off as the hunter approached……to black tipped hair and meat being found at the hit site……We jumped him out of the bed about 250 yards from the hit site and he never checked up……Blood was just an occasional drop here and there…..

I get it though…..I know folks just want to check and be sure…..There’s almost no talking anyone out of it…..There hunter is always like….”I don’t know man, it looked like a good shot…..he was hurt bad” ……(Insert explanation of spinal shock….watch it have zero effect on hunter’s opinion)…. rofl

Checked one for a young kid this morning that was playing hooky from school because it was good deer hunting weather… laugh....Its good to see that there's still kids out there being raised up right...... rofl Unfortunately it was likely just grazed on the shoulder or brisket……..One interesting thing on this track was that I saw Ruby my lab wind some turkeys from over a ridge top about 75 yards away…….Before we topped the ridge I saw her start nose bobbin and as we topped the hill there they were just down in the next holler

Second track had grandad and 12 year old grandson sitting together yesterday afternoon……Deer stepped in a road and junior had to make a quick shot…… We got there today about noon and found him roughly 300 yards from the hit site….. Hit was way back in the guts just in front of the hindquarter……There was good blood leading away from the hit site for 20 yards or so and then nothing until we got to about the 200 yard mark where he stopped and stood for awhile…….then nothing again until we found him. I’m betting junior was pretty happy when he got home from school today. smile

Still alive......likely just a back-whack but hunter thought he hit him a second time as it was getting up to run off......We jumped him about 300-400 yards from the hit site and let the dogs push him a little ways before calling it off as he was headed straight toward the county blacktop....He wasnt acting like he wanted to woah up......

Got pigs??

Checked another back-whack tonight on a stud someone had shot......We found spotty blood here and there until we finally jumped him around 700 yards from the hit site......Let the dogs run after him for a few hundred yards just to make sure and then called it off.....He'll live to be shot another day.....

I almost forgot......found a good sized fragment of the bullet along the trail on this one probably 400-500 yards from the hit site.....That was a first........Must have been buried up in the top of its shoulder and finally worked free

The grazed shot from 1/15 showed back up on camera yesterday.......Also, the back whack from last night ended up calling in a drone to confirm it....He was confirmed still alive and hit in the top of the shoulders......was already back chasing does....Surprised at no calls this morning after a pretty busy day yesterday......It was raining right at daylight so maybe folks slept in this morning.....

We got to find 2 today. First was a leg shot. Pretty routine broke a couple bays until they got him to a decent sized creek and was able to end it there. All dogs came out good so everything turned out good on that one. Second was a liver/gut for a girls first deer. Gave him a little while and found him dead in his first bed about 175 in
