Was killed Monday morning. I have pics, but I do not have permission to post them.

Not high fence, either. Several different property owners had pics of this buck. The guy who killed him Monday showed me trail cam pics of him back in November. I honestly thought he was bullshitting me.

This buck is a true giant. Not many killed in Alabama like this, including Bankhead, high Jackson, etc.

Mainframe 10 point with split G2's.

If it’s the same one I’m thinking of, it scores a little over 160 which is huge for that area. He actually passed on that deer last year.

Hmmm. “No fence……Passed him last year.” Further proving what I’ve always said. Trigger restraint and age is the key to growing big bucks. Unfortunately passing a rack buck is something that 95% of Bama hunters cannot force themselves to do. There’s not a genetic problem anywhere in this state that I’m aware of. What there is, is a massive age structure problem, due to the overly excessive amounts of young bucks being killed before they reach maturity and high-grading 80-90% of the herd before they reach 4 years old, with most being killed at 2 or 3.

Congrats to the guy on what sounds like a great buck for SA.

I know of a bunch of 160-200” deer killed this year in AL, free range. They’re all killed where ppl can let deer walk without fear of them getting blasted before reaching 5-6 years old. AL can produce some giant bucks. The hunting culture here is why we don’t more often.

There are several small pockets in Alabama that produce big Alabama deer 150+ consistently, but those will never make the internet from the hunter anyway. I know of 3 spots personally that they have killed multiple 150”+ deer and in some cases areas you wouldn’t think off, but you aren’t going to hear about it on the internet.

Starting to Agree - i would like to move my age structure to 6 year old. I Was at 4 year olds 4 or so years ago then i move to 5 few years ago. Over last 6 years killed more 5-7 year olds than 4 - and i had mistKe deer last light. Neat to see them grow - Clarke is only area i hav been able to do that

But i also say - hunt like you want to - its your hunt! I like to watch grow - you do you!

But it hard for me to hit 160 - hard for this area - not saying it cant happen. Five year old last year - might score 115. 6 year old this year - may score 127-128 - biggest ever. Aint shot buck in camden in 5 years - what did that get me - not even a 115 🤣🤣
My 7 year old in camden several years back - may score 100 - 213 pound 6 year old in clarke 3 years ago - maybe 105 score

Need a special animal first. That buck i just killed - taxi said it was his 3rd biggest of the year and he done close to 60 - just not a common deer like Kansas

Amd the freak in evergreen - rare at best. Chumukla club i was in years back produced a 155 around peanut farmers. Same year i killed a very mature 120s in same club - 2nd biggest buck in clubs 25 year history - first was the 155
Not common - but can be done

Like I tell my wife, size really doesn’t matter, it’s age that counts….

The reason they produce big deer is directly related to the environment around them, ie the pocket is created as a result of neighbors on the same mgmt plan, or surrounding sanctuary areas where none, or very limited hunting is allowed. I know a specific property in North Mobile county (yes Mobile County, that’s not a typo) that gives up a bunch of bucks in the mid 120-140 class every year,(has for the past 40 yrs) with sometimes one pushing 150, and no, it’s not on the river. Just crap white sand and pine trees. Highly unusual for Mobile County. What’s different about it? it’s a very large property (over 10k acres) and it’s surrounded on all sides with decent and in some cases, very good neighbors, that also want to grow big bucks. Very very few in-holdings or trailers sitting on 1-10 acres anywhere in the area. Old bucks get big, dead bucks don’t grow. They’ve solved the dead buck problem and miraculously they are growing trophy bucks regularly in an area where a 100” 8 pt is considered a very good deer.
