I am looking to overseed my pastures with some quality pasture grasses. I plan to do a couple acres a year until its all done. Any suggestions for a seed blend? Historically we only have feeder steers on the top pasture from April-November so I don't really need much in the way of cool season stuff up there. The back pasture will eventually have cows on it year round so I will need to do something there. We will of course feed hay, just looking to do the best I can to support my livestock.

My personal choice. Red River crabgrass grow till may-September. Ryegrass grow from September-may. Or pretty close anyway. I’d pull soil samples and get my dirt where it needs to be, the put out what you want.
Lots of choices though. Just ole fescue works ok, for what it is. Max Q fescue is some great grass. It’s costly but it’ll grow a calf.
Lime and fertilizer is probably best money spent and it’ll make what you have established work for ya.
Bahai works good in poor soil in summer months. But late summer early fall, it gets steamy and tuff, cows will balk at some.

Unless you are running short on grass in the spring/summer due to overgrazing or cutting hay for years without it seeding, I would just be sure to buy decent hay. Fescue can be overseeded in the fall. I agree with the lime and fertilizer. Chicken litter if you can get it and don't pass any up, even if you don't need it. If you pass it up, you may not get the offer on the next go round.

This back pasture was logged about 20 years ago, and was overgrown with small pines when I got it. I cleared the pine and just let nature take its course on grass. Just wanting to do the best I can to make a pasture as good as possible for the future. As of last year we had 4 steers running on about 20 acres so it was not getting beat down at all.
