Southeast Alabama is a different story.......I dont think the acorns are having as much impact there and hunters are still banging away at the does....We may still see some of those totals get up in the +15-20% range when the Florida folks roll in for their Jan hunts

No… the bucks, especially our larger bucks, do not travel the same amount “regardless of food”. In years without acorns on our place, bucks (especially our larger bucks) travel less during the rut. When there’s 12-15 does in one area, there’s no way the most dominant bucks in that area can breed all the does in a cycle - there’s not enough time. They’re traveling more this year on our place because the does are spread out (we have acorns across our acreage).

Stop it.

CNC knows more about the deer on your property than you do. All he needs is the state to provide him their highly accurate numbers and he knows it all...

I posted this a week or two ago but I’ll post it again for reference…..Again this was last years end totals compared to average…..This is what we are comparing the numbers against…..Its important to understand that so as to give context to each individual county and its trend line…..

For example, Houston county was 18% above average last year for doe harvest…..so that +9% they are running right now actually puts them 27% over average………Colbert Co is only running -2% on the doe map but that’s compared to last years 88%......so they are still well behind the average……At the end of the season I’ll post a final map that shows both comparisons….A comparison to last year and a comparison to the average…..What really matter though is the long term trend line of each county and how this season fits in to that

Harold, has gamecheck even been around long enough to compare averages? What is the average? And how do you know that compliance isn’t increasing annually? I still talk to ppl who don’t even know there is such a thing as gamecheck. Are harvest rates increasing or is gamecheck compliance increasing? We don’t know and won’t know.

The average that its compared against is the last five seasons…..Compliance could be increasing but when looking at GC compared to the hunter survey it would appear to have leveled out which makes sense….I posted those numbers up twice about 3 weeks ago……. After a certain time period those who use it are going to and those that don’t will not…..We’ve reached that point…..There’s not a significant difference anymore from year to year……At best it would be very minor

Even if it were increasing though you still have counties that are way up and counties that are way down and some that have stayed the same…..If you’re gonna chalk up the increases to more compliance then that means those counties that are down are even worse than indicated……I don’t think its coincidence either that the ones that have remained the same over the last five years are some of the best counties on the western side of the state…..Despite what some folks will perpetually argue, I think GC is showing us annual “change” pretty dang accurately…….

I think you’ve really hit on something James. The 4000 combined people in Wilcox, Dallas, Marengo, and Clarke counties that have been reporting since the beginning are probably still killing the same amount of deer and still reporting them just like they have been. The other 10,000 people hunting in those counties that were not reporting their kills are still killing the same number of deer and still not reporting them, so it appears on the charts that the harvest rates appear to be almost perfectly stable year to year. Half the Locals hunting in those counties probably don’t even have a hunting license. Most in those counties aren’t super tech savy and certainly are not up to date on game laws other than when the season opens and when it closes, which doesn’t really matter because a whole bunch of people just hunt when the urge hits them. Sometimes before the official start, sometimes after, and sometimes even at night. Lol.

Ironically Ol' Green Jeans NEVER showed up during those times! Damn sure would later in season though 😏 But yeah back to the DISCUSSION at hand! Daggum Yanks are killing all the damn deer by Gawd 😤

Well yall are easy to blame, being so easily identified. Not everyone hunts in “Cajun Reeboks” (white shrimper boots for those not familiar with the term).

Look at Limestone Co for example Matt…….Here’s the trend line for buck harvest over the last 5 years starting with last years harvest working backwards in time

Limestone .....1581…….1401 ……1325 ……1138 …….1187

Now this year they have fallen off a cliff and are on pace to possibly have the lowest harvest in 6 years……That doesn’t have anything to do with compliance....Meanwhile lets look at say Fayette county during the same time period. Now this season y’all are right on pace for another average year……You see what I’m getting at here……If you’re gonna chalk Limestone up to better compliance then that means Fayette has actually fallen way behind…..which as you know probably isnt the case…..This increase in Limestone is because hunters shot more

Fayette .....1671……1588 ……1603 …..1494 …..1777

The summer weather all last week, and then 3+ inches of rain across the most of the state on one of the most prime weekends to hunt timing wise(this past weekend), certainly adds to the issue of the too much food in the woods theory right now, to help create the harvest situation you see reflected on the latest charts. Those large numbers of both bucks and does, that are normally killed on prime date weekends (like this past weekend) during peak rut in most areas, are gone forever and will not be made up in the kill totals this year. I had planned to hunt Fri - Sat and ended up not going at all those days. Place would've been muddy wreck and I would've destroyed my roads getting in and out, just to sit in the warm torrential rain, to see virtually nothing. Timing of weather events definitely matters with regard to harvest totals and opportunity. If people are not hunting, then deer are not getting killed. I still say we will be bringing large numbers of deer forward into next years crop. Not only that, but they will be in better than normal shape body wise. With all the acorns and browse still available has created limited plot use. My plots look better than they ever have at this point in the season and will be providing a much needed nutrition boost going into spring with all that uneaten tonnage, that is normally heavily browsed down and gone by now.

CNC Are the two above graphs this year to date vs last year to date OR vs last five years?
