You can sit that long in one just fine. Heck, you can stand, kneel, squat, hang, rest on your knees, and likely some other positions from the saddle. I’ve not got uncomfortable yet. VERY limited days in one but I’ve sat for long durations when I did. I stayed in one almost 5 hours while taking a guest. I just sat above him while he was in a ladder. No problem.

What's your set up and approximate cost?

I’ve got a Tethrd Ultralock, which includes the shoulder straps. I haven’t used them, but I got them in case comfort was lacking. Really don’t see the need in them. The Ultralock is like a two panel saddle. You can get a lot of support from it. I use the one sticks (weigh 16 oz each). I really need 5 of them. Been using 4. I may go with an aider and just keep using 4. I have the Predator V composite XL platform and carry bag. The steps strap on to the back no problem. 8 mm tether and lineman’s rope.

You’ll need to catch all that on sale or be prepared for sticker shock. 😁
It is expensive, but it sure beats buying multiple lockons and sets of sticks. Take it anywhere and be up a tree in no time.

I plan on having a lot more experience under my belt by Feb 10th and hopefully can provide the good, bad and ugly of saddles.

Just buy in at the $500 mark and upgrade as you go if money is a problem. The extra weight doesn’t bother me as I’m use to carrying my summit but I’ll keep upgrading every year for sure.

I haven’t climbed in years, been hunting with kids. I was just thinking about going back to a climber possibly. Loc ons and ladder stands are hard to beat though.

Mbrock - will be interested to see your full report on the saddle hunting. I’ve been considering getting one but at 57 and mostly a gun hunter now wasn’t sure how well it would work for me, I always assumed saddles were a young man’s thing mostly for bow hunting.

Would be curious to hear others experiences gun hunting out of a saddle.

I'll be 56 next month, still healthy and in shape but do have a bulging L4 disk but keep it under control with the chiropractor each month. I wanted to try Saddle Hunting before I got older and out of shape.

I've watched a lot of videos on it. I've considered as far as a platform goes, one of those platforms that work like the bottom piece of a climber and then just repelling down. Of course, a stick or two would always be needed because not all trees are good for that climber type bottom

Just my thoughts so far.

Being stubborn and having the time, I usually hunt a spot a few times out of a climber before installing a permanent stand. Some people just stick cameras, and verify things that way, but that is ghey.

I always use a climber if I'm hunting public. That may be why I don't hunt public much anymore.

Ive been wondering the best way to get the gun up the tree when saddle hunting. I always climb with it on my back in a climber but didnt know if that would work with the saddle.

Saw where they were shutting down 12-31-25 but listed several stores that still had some.
Very secure and comfortable.
