The cool thing about a 45 is that pretty much any ammo you buy for it is subsonic so it'll be stupid quiet.

My neighbor is big into building guns. He built a 9mm with a suppressor that’s so quiet that the bolt is just about the only thing you hear. He has a shooting range set up in his backyard and I’ve witnessed this myself. It’s crazy to watch him from my back porch (couple hundred yards away) and not hear the shot, then hear the metal target when he hits it.

Yeah i'd run regular loads vs SUBs, shot some Remington subs once out my 45s and good lawd wasn't long and neither gun would cycle cause they were so damn dirty from those Remington loads! I'm sure there's better options out there (this was probably 6 years ago) but i just stick with the Standards

I run a Silencerco Osprey 45 on a 1911 .45ACP and some 9mm hosts.

2 years ago i owned zero suppressors.

Now I have 3 and zero desire to shoot anything unsuppressed.

I agree with you 100%. I shot some of my friends suppressed hunting rifles and I was sold. I had used them in the military but never considered hunting with one until a year or so ago. I honestly dont know why I waited so long. Iven bought two since Jan 1st and plan to buy 2-3 more.

Do you screw them directly on to the barrel or do you have an attachment system?

Have you received yours yet big country? I did one Tuesday and still havnt heard anything back.

Not yet, Due to work I just got my eforms submitted Saturday. I'm assuming if will take a few weeks or month due to the amount of the people that have applied. If you put them in a trust if can take a little longer, I didnt need one so hopefully that speeds it up a little.

Seems like a bunch of hoop-la about nothing to me also.

My buddy owns a gun store and he said before the first they was receiving them within 48 ours tops

I filled out my paperwork Thursday and got confirmation it was finally submitted Friday. He told me he’s had to resubmit several times for guys buying for the first time. I guess I’ll see if I get approved this week.

I’ve ordered my criterion core 13.9 barrel so I’ll be applying for SBR when I set that up

Obviously I’m in the vast minority I’ll concede defeat. Still don’t see it for hunting the barrel length alone is enough to deter me. I could see it more for wing shooting rather than deer hunting. But obviously I am weird.

If you’re looking for a rimfire can, this new Ruger (Dead Air) RXD 22Ti is the best I’ve been around. I think it’s even better than the Mask on sound, if a hair bigger. ZERO first round pop, seemingly also has low back pressure (than my other rimfire, anyway). It’s reasonable, too. Still waiting on shipment for my 30 cal version.

You can get rifles with a shorter barrel to accommodate a suppressor if that’s a con for you. Or you can get a suppressor that’s short in length. However, if you’re hunting from a climber or lock on I can see where that would be a concern. If you haven’t shot with one definitely try it out sometime if you the chance, it was night and day for me

I’ve got a can for a 22 and love it. But you can hear the firing pin on the rifle.

I’m not against suppressors at all. For hunting purposes for me I just don’t see it. Target shooting 100% get it. But a spooked deer is a spooked deer and I’ve seen deer not leave or come back shortly multiple times without a suppressor. I reserve the right to change my mind. Recoil sensitivity I’ll accept it but there are a lot of options that are cheaper and easier to fix that.

None of that is (mostly not) why I use suppressors on centerfires. It’s about sound to the shooter and bystanders first. I don’t run anything that’s not hearing safe for at least 3-4 shots. Follow ups are faster due to the reduced blast, and reduced recoil is just a byproduct of that. Also, 8-9x out of 10, any animals not hit on the first shot (multiple coyotes, hogs, or even a missed deer) will spook TO YOU, not away. I’ve killed up to 4 coyotes, with the first hit being over 200 yards and the last at 30 yards, still looking back over his shoulder away from me at the sonic crack off the timber behind him. If I don’t want some yahoo to know exactly where I climbed a tree and they heard a shot, they’ll also be looking in the wrong spot, as well. So, use in the field shows some things to users, that aren’t readily apparent to the initial buyer. With subs in my rimfire and my 44mag, anything they hear is far more confusing than startling. Confusion/indecision is time.

I take a lot of kids into shooting houses, and muffs suck, when you could just use a can. I also don’t have to worry about recoil with kids and women on full power chamberings as much.

And there are reflex suppressors in which a portion of the suppressor comes back over the barrel and the threaded part is somewhere near halfway in. This setup only adds approximately half the length of the suppressor to the overall length of the weapon. I have an OPS INC 3rd Model .30cal and that's the way all OPS cans were built. Ron Allen was the guy in charge at OPS and bought the rights from the original owner's wife, moved the operation out of California and now the same designs are built as Allen Engineering Suppressors/AE Suppressors. One caveat is that these are military grade suppressors and they're heavy. Mine was built while Ron was doing a run for Canadian Special Forces. If memory serves me correctly, they're all full auto rated. They have a very proprietary noise cancelling baffle system, based on sound wave science, for internals that was patented in the 1970s (I think).

AB Suppressor Raptor is similar design. Was looking hard at them and for a hunting scenario I think they’d work well. I was looking for an AR so I moved on
